THE BRIEF
We are producing a two minute opening of a slasher film; included in this will be our company ident,
appropriate titles and specifically composed music.

SYNOPSIS
Our opening uses ideas from several different slasher films; most obviously Scream and Black Christmas. A
group of carol singers come across a psychotic killer dressed as Santa; he spends the duration of the film
trying to kill them all and destroy the festive season. Many of the deaths will occur in inventive, Christmas
themed ways, and there will be an element of mystery as the story behind the killer Santa is gradually
revealed.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This should help it appeal to the 16-25 age demographic that is the slasher genre’s highest
viewing audience; this should help in box office takings. The film will likely be ‘15’ rated.

GENRE
We intend the film to be a typical slasher film, featuring recognisable conventions. There will be a masked
killer, final girl, and other sketched archetypes, common from multiple films in the genre. The film will mix
horror and gore with moments of lighter comedy.

LINKS TO GENRE
The film will follow in the footsteps of iconic slasher films, such as ‘Halloween’ and ‘Scream’. Features
that have been carried over include the middle-class suburban setting, with young people being pursued by a
masked killer. Both of these films proved extremely popular, and we hope that by following their
established conventions, our film will also gain a large audience.
MISE-EN-SCENE: LOCATIONS, PROPS, COSTUMES, MAKE-UP ETC
We plan to shoot the film in the evening, to give it a gloomy and foreboding atmosphere. There will be
recurring motifs, such as a murder taking place in a snowy landscape. Filming will take place around an
estate close by to the school, with the moors also near. We have a costume for the killer Santa, his weapon,
a carving knife, and a fake beard to conceal his identity. One way of keeping the budget down is for cast
members to wear their own clothing and make-up.

CAST AND CREW NEEDED
Other roles will be filled by actors portraying the killer Santa, various residents of the street in which he
carries out his attacks and the carol singers and other teenagers who become the targets of his intentions. We
will also need behind-the-scenes roles in music and props. Ideally, most of the key crew roles such as
filming and cinematography we be filled by ourselves, so we can have the greatest amount of creative
control over our product.

CONTACT DETAILS
We have a company blog at http://redxmas.blogspot.co.uk/ This will contain further details about the
project, as well as contact details for each of us individually. We hope to update it to include information
about how production and the shoot progresses.
