Richard’s actual full birth name is Milton Teagle
Simmons. He was born in Louisiana on July
12, 1948. As a child, Richard was very
overweight. He seemed to become reliant on
unhealthy weight loss programs, and as well as
dietary supplements. Simmons lived in Italy for
awhile before moving to the world famous Los
Angeles, California in 1973. The main reason
Simmons decide to come to L.A.X, is so he could
open his own exercise studio in order to reach
out to people who are severely overweight.

In 1980 Richard Simmons started his own
T.V. personality show ironically called: “The
Richard Simmons Show.”
The show aired for four seasons
Simmons marketed himself to the public
while writing self-help books, creating “DealA-Meal” food inspired fitness program, and
he also produced the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies”
line of exercise video.

Due to his wonderful personality and energy,
Richard Simmons has made guest
appearances on late night show’s as famous
as “The David Letterman Show” and “The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
On average Simmons makes an almost, what
seems impossible 250 T.V. appearances
around the world per year.

does he make exercising fun, as well as
maintaining a great personality. He is also a
well respected writer that writes healthy living
books for people that are looking to better
their life.
Richard Simmons also developed an exercise
program for the physically challenged, which
he documented in his book; “Reach for
Fitness: A Special Book for the Physically
Challenged.
