in Tunis, Tunisia. Foreign Minister of Tunisia Mongi Hamdi proclaimed that
the international conference on Investment, is a message of confidence in
Tunisia and the capacity of its people to build their own future.
Tunisia presented an "ambitious but realistic and achievable" economic
programme (2014-2018) to its international donors and partners at the
international conference "Invest in Tunisia, Start-up Democracy."
Established by the Prime Ministry, the plan, which concocts the ground
for development to the next elected government, is based on four strategic
columns: regulator of public spending and promotion of structural
reforms, revival of growth and employment, regional development and
solidarity and social inclusion.
It tries to catch to recover the organisation of public expenditure
and reduce waste of state resources, predominantly through control of
the payroll by bringing its cost to a rate of 10% to 11% of the GDP from
13.75% now.
The programme also delivers for introducing reforms in the
subsidy system through the direct targeting of eligible population.
In this context, works are now in progress to establish a unified
database (with unique identifier per household). A first version of
the transfer system will be ready for real testing before the end of
2014.
The economic programme also devices to rationalize
public investment that will be progressively
increased to reach 8% of the GDP by 2018

The government Rwf15 billion
Treasury bond started trading
on the floor of the Rwanda Stock
Exchange (RSE), becoming the
11th bond to be listed on the local
stock market.
Officials of the National Bank
of Rwanda, the primary issuer,
say they hope to build on the 232
per cent oversubscription success
to attract more retail investors to
trade in government instruments
on the secondary market.
However, investors
in government debt
tend to hold onto their
stocks until maturity
period, resulting
in inactivity on the
secondary market.
This, analysts say,
is holding back growth
of the bond market.
“Although there
is a lot of appetite
for government
paper, the challenge
is that we have more
investors buying to hold rather
than to sell which has kept the
secondary market a bit inactive,”
John Rwagombwa, the central
bank governor, said before ringing
the bell to launch the trading. But
Celestin Rwabukumba, the RSE
chief executive, attributed low
activity on the secondary market
to the few products on the stock
market.
“With time, as more bonds
are listed, investors will be
encouraged to sell some of their
bonds so as to buy more lucrative
ones,” Rwabukumba said.
“Buyers usually buy a product
which has better yields than the
deposit rates. However, there are
few equities and bonds which they
The Democratic Alliance launched
a petition urging the tourism and
home affairs ministries to introduce
electronic visas (e-visas) for tourists.
The DA wanted both ministries to
introduce regulations that would pave
the way for tourist e-visas so that
jobs in South Africa could be saved,
tourism spokesperson James Vos
said in a statement.
“A study commissioned by the
Tourism and Business Council of SA
on the impact of the new immigration
regulations indicates that the country
may lose 270 000 international
tourists.”
This would in turn see 21 000 jobs
lost annually due to the regulations,
costing South Africa R9.7-billion.
South Africa's new immigration
regulations introduce a new visa
regime. The regulations draw a clear
distinction between short-stay visas
and long-stay permanent residence
permits.
They stipulate that visa
applications need to be made by
applicants in person, and those
wanting to change the status of their
visa can no longer do so in South
Africa but at missions abroad.
Vos said visitors to South Africa

in person was an additional and
unnecessary travel expense for those

Some potential visitors did not
live in countries with these facilities
at all. “Reports from China, one
of South Africa’s largest tourism
markets, confirmed that marketing
packages relating to South African
tourist destinations will come to an
end by October 1 this year due to
this added difficulty.”
This was a serious blow to
South Africa's tourism industry
and would condemn many South
Africans to joblessness, without the
hope of finding new employment.
“Tourism has been identified in
the National Development Plan as
a key job driver for our economy.
Currently, tourism supports one in
every 12 jobs in South Africa,” Vos
said.
Introducing e-visas would
protect jobs and present “significant
advantages” by reducing the
turnaround times for issuing travel
documents.
Vos said e-visas were also more
secure than existing permits.
“Electronic visas have proven
to be highly effective in comparable
countries such as Turkey,” he said.
“The DA has therefore launched
this online petition for all South
Africans and those abroad to
register their disapproval of these
destructive new regulations, and to
express support for our proposal to
institute electronic visas.”

can invest in. But the existing ones
are quite attractive.”
Targeting maturity
He said because there was no
incentive to sell on the secondary
market, the majority of investors,
especially banks and insurance
companies, held onto their
investment until the end of the
bond’s maturity period.
“These kinds of investors are
not speculators and sell their
holdings only when they know they
stand to gain. That’s why we have
to get more attractive products to
encourage them to sell and invest,”
Rwabukumba explained.
The bond’s coupon rate is
11.875 per cent, with government
making interest payments after
every six months.
Elias Mugabe, a broker with
CDH Capital, was the first to place
a Rwf600,000 bid on the bond.
“Thesebondsareusuallytraded
at Rwf100 each at the bourse,
meaning that if I wanted to sell at
a profit, I would sell at say Rwf101
each,” Mugabe told The New
Times. Meanwhile, Rwagombwa
said the government’s quarterly
bond issuance programme was
meant to bolster activity in the
secondary market as well as
enabling investors to have more
trading options.
Public awareness
He urged the Capital Markets
Authority and RSE to sensitise the
public on the benefits of investing
in the bond market.
“There are still few retailers
participating in these bonds.
Overall, we had 24 retail investors
[for Rwf15 billion bond
issued] from Kigali
compared to 27 we
had last time [February
issuance], but we had
10 from outside Kigali
coming on board this
time,” he said.
Many Rwandans do
not understand how the
bond market operates
or how they can benefit
when they invest in
shares.
The government
started the bond issuance
programme in 2008, but hit a
snag the same year due to the
global financial crisis. It resumed
issuance in 2010 and 2011, with
small issuances of Rwf10 billion.
It, however, stopped the
programme opting to focus on
Treasury bills, especially last year
after some donors suspended
aid. It was to enter the bond
market with the hugely successful
Eurobond issuance last year.
This year, the government has
issued two bonds so far under the
quarterly issuance programme;
the Rwf12.5 billion three-year
bond issued in February, and last
week’s Rwf15 billion issue.

the 2012 ratio). Nigeria’s economy
grew in 2013 due to high oil prices
and a healthy domestic market.
On the Move
Nigeria offers mammoth
business prospects to all the
savers in diverse sectors like
agriculture, oil and gas, textiles
and mining amongst others, and
interestingly, reflected to be a
lucrative investment destination.
This country has a stable political
environment and the government
policies shaped fully embolden
for both domestic and foreign
investment. Investors can do
well and earn prospects from its
thriving and prosperous sectors.
• Proud of its Roots
Agriculture in Nigeria accounts
for around one – third of the
country’s GDP and two-thirds of
employment. Nigeria's foremost
crops embrace palm, peanut oil,
rubber, and cotton. These crops are
exported and are also sold locally.
Other agricultural products include
sorghum, millet, maize (corn),
yams and cassava. All of these are
previously used as subsistence
foods by farmers but are now
widely sold for cash.
The country ranks twenty fifth
worldwideandfirstinAfricainfarm
output. Majority of Nigeria's food
production comes from small scale
farmers using basic agricultural
equipment. The government
has recently put considerable
amounts of money into refining
farming through investment into
rural infrastructure and irrigation
projects and by presenting modern
agricultural chemicals.
• Driving Innovation
Nigeria is opulent in natural
resources, particularly in case of
hydrocarbons. In international
ranking Nigeria holds the 10th oil
producer and the 3rd largest oil
producer in Africa. The Nigerian
economy is mainly reliant on its oil
sector which supplies 95% of its
foreign exchange earnings.
The upstream segment of the
oil industry is the most important
segment of the Nigerian economy.
According to the 2008 BP
Statistical Energy Survey, Nigeria
had proved oil reserves of 36.22
billion barrels at the end of 2008
or 2.7 % of the world's reserves.
The government plans to enlarge
its proven reserves to 40 billion
barrels by 2010. Regardless of the
problems allied with the ethnic
uneasiness and the border disputes
and government funding problems,
the resource Nigeria has in the oil
sector makes it into one of the most
attractive destination for many oil-
multinationals. Nigeria produced
an average of 2353.07 thousand
barrels of crude oil per day in
2007, 2.7% of the world total and a
change of -4.8 % compared to 2006.
The petroleum industry
of Nigeria is controlled by the
Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
The government retains close
control over the industry and in
the activities of the NNPC, whose
senior executives are appointed by
the ruling government.
• The Latest Entry
Textiles have been shaped
in Nigeria by the traditional
methods now for several years,
but the industrial action used
in the production of textile is
reasonably much more recent.
The sector has now established
to incorporate carpet production,
dyeing, embroidery makings, fiber
production, lace, spinning, weaving,
knitting, printing and finishing.
The sector produces a variety of
fabrics ranging from African prints,
shirting, embroideries, etc. to
Guinea brocades, wax prints, jute
and other products.
The textile sector of Nigeria
largely includes of the Cotton
Textile and Synthetic Fabrics and
remains to account for a significant
proportion of the overall growth
to around 150,000 Nigerians,
excluding the thousands who are
directly employed in the cottage
sector of the industry.
Currently there is no restriction
in ownership of the textile industry
but international ownership is
still limited. Through privatization,
most of the equity investments
previously held by government
now have been shifted to private
hands. The performance of the
industry has amended largely by
privatization.
• Keeping the Faith
The mining of minerals scores
foronly0.3%ofitsGDP.Themining
industry is unfledged thus Nigeria
needs to import minerals which it
could mine locally. The ownership
privileges for the exploring, mining
and selling of mineral resources are
held by the Nigerian government.
The mineral resources of
Nigeria embrace coal, iron, gold,
uranium and tantalum.
The coal resources are
disseminated over fifteen states.
The Nigerian Coal Corporation is
one accountable for most of the
coalmines present in the region.
The coal section of the Nigerian
economy is slowly being privatized.
Iron ore is largely mined at
the Itakpe which has an annual
capacity of 5.5Mt per year. The
state owned National Iron Ore
Company functions in this region.
Western region of Nigeria is
well-known for the gold deposits,
the sites for mining are Maru,
Anka, Malele, Tsohon Birnin
Gwari-Kwaga, Gurmana, Bin Yauri,
Okolom-Dogondaji, and Iperindo in
Kwara State. Uranium is found in 6
of the 36 states in Nigeria.

send a sample to a client in the US
from the same place he picks up
his daily newspaper, whereas a
mother in Mauritius is now able
to ship a birthday gift to her son in
France while her car is being filled
up at the fuel station.
DHL also simplified its pricing
and packaging options to fit in
with the needs of its customers as
opposed to the other way around.
To make people aware of its retail
offering, the streets of Africa
are often painted yellow and
red through tactical advertising
campaigns involving dancing,
singing and special DHL giveaways.
“Through the passion and
energy of our 4,000 employees
across Sub Saharan Africa, we have
changed the perception that DHL
only caters for multinationals and
big business. Our retail customers
no longer have to sit in traffic to
send a document or parcel, but
can literally find a DHL service
point right around the corner,”
Rwakabogo was speaking during the
launch of MTN Data Fest at the telecom
firm’s headquarters in Nyarutarama Kigali.
He said the mobile app contest will
add momentum to existing efforts to
support home-grown solutions through
initiatives that positively impact society in
a sustainable manner.
“The contest will be conducted in two
phases; during the first stage contestants
will submit concept proposals, which we
will review; and the second stage will
involve an app delivery and review by a
panel of industry experts. The winners
will be announced at the end of the MTN
Data Fest,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rwakabogo said the two-
month data festival seeks to enhance data
penetration across the country, which
currently is at 20 per cent.
He added that the festival will
also focus on how small-and-medium
businesses (SMEs) can use Internet to
grow their enterprises.
“Our strategic objective is to
drive data penetration in the
different regions of the country by
offering exceptional value when
using the Internet... We will also
educate customers on the role
of the Internet, especially in
business,” Rwakabogo said.
Customers will also be
trained on how to use
data centre services,
including broadband,
cloud computing
and LTE, hot-spot
premium, directory
services and Internet
bundles.

Bhullar pledged Airtel’s continued
support to Umuganda activities so as
to contribute to an environmentally
clean country, strengthen the firm’s
community engagement, as well as
support the country’s development
programmes.
The telecom firm also pledged 200
chairs and a public address system
to Nyabisindu cell to facilitate future
community meetings and events.
Florence Ntakontagize, the
Nyabisindu cell leader, thanked Airtel
for the gesture and donation to the

says Rahavendra. “Perhaps most
gratifying is the fact that we are
empowering business owners
and aspiring entrepreneurs
across Africa with an additional
opportunity to earn money and
live better.”
He tells the story of a DHL
reseller in Kenya whose mobile
phone accessories shop is located
right opposite a DHL corporate-
owned store. When asked why
customers would ship with her
rather than go to the fully-branded
DHL outlet, she said the average
person relates much better with
her shop, perceiving it to be
affordable and less formal than
the one across the road.
“In a continent like Africa
where the informal economy rules,
a company’s retail strategy cannot
revolve around high-end shopping
malls,” adds Rahavendra. “You
have to operate on a level where
customers can understand, feel
and relate to your product. You
really need to ensure that your
brand connects to the average
person on the street,” concludes
Rahavendra.

6. FRANKLY SPEAKING06
I
t’s enthralling to witness how telecommunication
companies have revolutionalised the African
continent with mobile technology in the past few
years. According to International Telecommunications
Union (ITU), there were 271 million mobile
subscribers in Africa in 2007, compared to 15 million
in 2000. Internet subscribers (i.e. excluding Internet
café usage) in Africa were according to ITU about
9.7 million; up from 1.2 million in year 2000. The
statistics above include the more pierced Northern
African markets. In Southern Africa, South Africa
take over with high penetration of 40 million mobile
subscribers2, mostly pre-paid.
Having entered most parts of the continent, mobile
companies settled to revolutionize by using their
systems to transfer money within their customers.
One of the mobile money transfers in Africa which
revolutionalised East Africa is Safarican in Kenya.
Kenya’s local mobile phone operator, Safaricom
launched M-pesa in 2007. M-pesa allows users to
charge their mobile phones with credit paid to any of
M-pesa’s agents conveniently situated in commercial
venues around the country. Any mobile phone airtime
seller in a small street corner booth or shop that
handles cash can be an M-pesa agent. There are over
17,500 M-pesa agents all over Kenya, compared to
Kenya’s 840 bank branches. M-pesa agents are highly
visible and available in Urban and rural areas and
conveniently double up as M-pesa’s mobile money
cashpoints.
Other African countries such as Ghana, South Africa,
Zimbabwe and Nigeria also caught up with the mobile
money transfer which later became known as mobile
banking. As the banks in Africa saw the viability of the
mobile system, they have now come into collaboration
with the communication companies.
Zain, a competitor mobile phone operator in Kenya
launched a banking service called Zap-M in 2009. The
facility also covers Uganda and Tanzania and targeted
at 100 million people. Zap extended its mobile banking
services to Malawi, Niger and Sierra Leone within a
year of its East African launch. With operations in 16
African countries serving over 42 million customers,
Zain is a chief mobile phone operator in Africa and
is famous for its “One Network” borderless mobile
network in Africa. The One Network covers over 400
million prospective customers and is the world’s first

Equity Bank, Africa’s largest bank with
more than eight million customers has
come up with an innovative facility for
its customers allowing them easy access
to their bank accounts. The bank make
available its account holders a slim line
SIM said to be laid on top of their mobile
phone SIM cards. This facility of slim line
SIM will permit customers to maintain
their accounts, transactions through
phone numbers and services. The SIM
will add bank access to the phone menu
and making bank transactions safe and
secure.
With this facility, Equity Bank
antedates to upsurge and fortify its
customer base in Kenya as it will
entice new customers while boosting
more transactions. This ‘mobile virtual
network’ banking service also provides
the privilege of piggyback on existing
infrastructure provided by Bharti Airtel,
leading telecommunications firm in India
and Africa.
No doubt, this new technology
is a great competition for Africa’s
presently leading company; Safaricom
and its M-Pesa mobile money transfer
platform. In the same vein, Chief
Executive of Equity Bank, James Mwangi
anticipates that the mobile offering is
a breakthrough barriers of access and
distance that comes up hampering
banking sector in the continent.

Headquartered in Lomé, Togo in West Africa,
Ecobank has also combined with Airtel, signing a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) announced
in June 2011to promote mobile banking services in
Africa. Ecobank functions in 30 African countries and
Airtel in 19 countries in Africa and Asia. At the end
of April 2011, Airtel had over 223 million customers
across the 19 countries it operates in. Ecobank also
has 750 branches across Africa.
In November 2010, Ecobank Ghana and Zain
launched Ecobank Mobile Banking in Ghana. The
service allows Ecobank account holders to manage
their accounts using their mobile phones.
In Liberia, Lonestar Cell MTN and Ecobank
Liberia have partnered to bring new mobile banking
services called Mobile Money to customers in
Liberia. Launched in September 2011, mobile money
will allow customers to register for mobile bank
accounts to make and receive cash payments, pay
bills, transfer funds locally and receive international
remittances.
WIZZIT Mobile Bank network established in
2004 also allows account holders to receive and
make payments on their mobile phones. Vodacom,
South Africa’s biggest mobile phone operator has
formed a partnership with Nedbank to offer M-pesa
services to customers. Users that do not have bank
accounts are encouraged to register and open mobile
accounts.
In Ghana, StanChart Bank delivered their
first mobile banking application. The App allows
customers, among other functions, quick and easy
access to their accounts; the ability to transfer funds,
pay bills and top up of mobile phone credits.
Breeze is accessible on Blackberry, Android and
IOS. Customers need to go to their App Store and
download the free app.
Airtel Ghana, through its award winning Airtel
Money mobile commerce service and Databank have
also launched an innovative service that brought
convenience and flexibility to how customers of
Databank’s investment packages top up their
investments via their mobile phone.
Another mobile money innovation is when Airtel
Ghana, the fastest growing telecommunications
company in Ghana again crunched a deal for
managed Value Added Services (VAS) with mobile
software company, Rancard Solutions, a leader
in mobile VAS technology with content discovery
algorithms. Under the terms of the agreement, Airtel
Ghana would use Rancard’s service management
tool, Value Added Services Provider Manager (VASP
Manager), to deploy and manage multiple content
provider accounts and services. This enables the
mobile network to render a rich, diverse and
concerted mobile content and service experience for
their subscribers.
The habit of using someone else’s bank account
means that access is actually higher for certain
segments of the unbanked. This is more common
within families with few members having formal
employment. That is why the mobile banking has
come as smart way to go for the unbanked. But
before the coming of mobile banking, banking
business seems to be for the elites only.
What is the banking outlook like in Africa and
how will the mobile banking aid their
forecasts? Doyens say Sub-Saharan Africa is
set to enjoy a banking boom in the decade
to 2020. Research indicates that Real GDP
growth in the region averaged 6.8% a
year in 2005-08, the best for a generation,
and stayed positive in 2009, despite the
global recession. The subsequent rebound
has also been swift, and growth was
forecasted to average 5.5% in 2011-12,
generating brisk real per capita growth
of 3.4% a year. Overcoming a long legacy
of underdevelopment, the conditions are
in place for a doubling of banking assets
and deposits, a proliferation of outlets
and the extension of services to swathes
of the continent’s unbanked majority over
the next decade and this is where mobile
banking comes in handy.
Our goal is to make
communications, banking,
payments, retail and
infotainment affordable
and accessible to all in
Africa, and we have a track
record that is unrivalled in
mobile telecommunications
for delivering relevant and
innovative mobile solutions
to help customers overcome
their daily challenges.
Rancard’s focus is to
provide mobile network
operators with the tools that
enable them to improve
their ARPUs and keep
subscribers engaged through
innovation. We believe with
Rendezvous we enable
mobile subscribers to find the
content/applications/services
they really want with software-
enabled recommendations
from people they trust inside
of the network.

M
umbai is what we lovingly call - the
'City of Dreams'. This marvellous
metropolis is not only the financial
capital of India that aids as the center of all
trade and investments, but also a cultural
center.
It is a place where you can enjoy the most
eminent stylish labels and merchandises
from various fashion houses that overflow
the eventful malls. A place where allure is not
a rare word and is imitated brazenly in the
Bollywood film industry.
To witness some of God's astonishing
wonders- the splendid sunsets over the
Arabian Sea, do take a look at the beaches
in Mumbai, which is a dream-like vision. In
Mumbai, night is when the day truly arises,
which is why Mumbai is also talk
about as the 'city that never sleeps'.
Once a cluster of seven islands, Mumbai
was offered to King Charles II in 1661 as
part of the dowry when he married Princess
Catherine de Braganza of Portugal.
City of Dreams: Vivacious, thriving, on
the move, energetic, amusing - this is Mumbai
or as it is still often denoted as - Bombay.
The most contemporary city in India, it
catches the essence of the shifting pace set by
liberalization and modernisation.
Lip-Smacking Choices: It is the capital
of Maharashtra state, and its official language
is Marathi though English and Hindi are
broadly spoken and understood. The fast-
paced life has given rise to packs of "fast-food
Mumbai
outlets" on more or less every road, proposing
lip-smacking choices of Mumbai's very own:
Pau Bhaji, Bhel Puri and Kababs. There is no
shortage, yet, of multi-culinary delicacies
dished out in high-class restaurants by master
chefs.
Shopper's Delight: Mumbai is a
shopper's delight with inexpensive buys,
élite boutiques, cultural markets and mini
bazaars. This eventful city is also the centre
of a blossoming cultural life, with an endless
stream of concerts in music, dance and drama.
BindaasBollywood:NexttoHollywood,
Mumbai is world's largest production centre
for films. The Film City: 'Bollywood', as it is
called, produces the second most number of
films in the world every year.
Mumbai for All: Mumbai gratifies to
the audacious and the idealistic through its
boasting activities, nightclubs, pubs, theatres,
beaches and restaurants.
Old and new, rich and poor, classical and
modern- it’s all here for you to smell and
relish!
The City That
Never Sleeps!!
Gateway of India: This 26m-high
edifice has four turrets and
intricate latticework engraved
into the yellow basalt stone. Local
people as well as the foreign
tourists come down to this place
in the evening and take a cool rest
from day's tiring work schedules.
WHERE TO GO???
Marine Drive: It is the place where
people hang out to cool down a
while from the muggy hurried
and busied life. As street lamps
systematically line up on the edge
of the beach, it is also known as
called Queen's Necklace. Stalls on
the beach, selling Bhelpuri, Kulfi and
Paan make the chowpatty reviving.
Juhu Beach: Juhu is one of the
most popular and posh beaches
of India. Tourists can enjoy
horse and donkey rides, dancing
monkeys, acrobats, cricket
matches, toy sellers etc. here.
Essel World: Essel World offers
over 40 exciting rides, games, and
attractions. The Water Kingdom is
said to be the largest of its kind in
Asia. It is a perfect destination for a
one-day holiday.
Siddhivinayak Temple: The
temple has a Kalash, which is
a pointed dome of 12 feet high
Gabhara (sanctum sanctorum)
weighing 1500 kg and plated in gold.
So, it expedites the 'Darshan' of Sri
Siddhivinayak from either the area
surrounding the Gabhara or the
stage (Sabha Mandap) constructed
to conduct pujas and festivities.
Haji Ali: Haji Ali Dargah is one of
India’s most famed and prominent
landmarks. The impressive Haji
Ali is both a mosque and tomb.
The Dargah is situated on a small
island and is reachable through a
narrow walking lane.

Bujumbura Marathon: Participants
say it was a success
Bujumbura is the capital, largest
city, and main port of Burundi.
Big names from the world
of athletics came to Bujumbura
last weekend with the Kenyan
contingent led by none other than
WilsonKipsang,holderoftheworld
marathon record accompanied
by 800 metres Olympic champion
Wilfred Bungei and many others
from the region, giving prominence
to the Bujumbura event and
showing solidarity with Burundi’s
effort to position itself at last as an
equal partner in the East African
Community.
Burundi’s Tourism Board,
which offices were only repainted
a week earlier under a self-help
initiative by the tourism fraternity,
was the main driver behind the
event.
The three races, a half
marathon of 21 kilometres and
a 10 and 3 kilometre race were
all well attended and the course
through Bujumbura lined with
spectators, cheering on amateurs
and the more professional athletes
who had come to race each other.
Carmen Nibigira, CEO of the
Burundi Tourism Office – leaving
shortly on study leave to complete
her Ph.D. studies in the United
States – was swift to point out that

It will be recalled that Caf
gave hosting rights to Rwanda
after the country hosted two
successful youth continental
tournaments in a space of
three years; 2009 Africa Youth
championship and the African
U-17 Championship two years
later.
Chan, a tournament
designed exclusively for
footballers playing in their
domestic leagues has since
been held in Cote d’Ivoire
(2009), Sudan (2011) and

Rwanda Chess Federation
president Kevin Ganza says the

“It is not just about the
king, queen and knights, it is
about thinking strategically,
anticipating consequences,
weighing options and making
decisions. It is a very important
game,” he told Times Sport.

How you will describe the picture
of the medical sector of India? How
it is different from Africa?
Medical sector in India has
world class institutions with proven
expertise catering to all types of
health care requirements. African
medical sector lacks specialty and
super-specialty medical institutions.
No doubt, a rapid growth has
been experienced by the African
economy in the field of medicine.
As per your prolonged experience,
what are patient’s basic
requirements in Africa?
Quality diagnosis and appropriate,
affordable treatment solutions.
What role does medical tourism
plays in today’s world? In your
view, how it is a boon for African
patients?
Medical tourism is becoming a
profitable industry in countries like
Thailand, India, Singapore, Morocco
and many other countries. Medical
tourism in India offers world class
health care solutions at affordable
cost to the patients in Africa.
Give a brief about Heal Bliss and
its endeavours?
Heal and Bliss Private Limited
(www.healnbliss.com) has been
pioneer in offering medical tourism to
patients in Africa since 2002. Heal
Bliss offers best possible solutions to
its clients through a pool of over 200
hospitals in India.
Still any people are unaware with
the concept of medical tourism.
What measures should be taken
to promote and endorse medical
tourism?
Regular awareness campaigns
through social media, electronic
media and print media should be
undertaken. In addition, medical
professionals in the targeted
countries should be made aware
about the medical tourism facilities
available in India. Government of
India through its embassies and
missions should promote India as a
medical tourism destination.
One disease took lives of many
people in Africa in last few months,
Ebola. Could you please elaborate
on it and its preventive measures?
What steps should be taken by the
government in this regard?
Ebola was discovered in 1976
near the Ebola River in what is now
the Democratic Republic of the
Congo. Since then, outbreaks have
appeared sporadically in several
African countries. The 2014 Ebola
outbreak is the largest Ebola outbreak
in history and the first in West Africa.
The current outbreak is affecting
multiple countries in West Africa
namely Liberia (1698 cases), Sierra
Leone (1216 cases), Guinea (771
cases), Nigeria (21 cases), and Senegal
(1case). The virus is spread through
direct contact (through broken skin
or mucous membranes) with blood
and body fluids (urine, feces, saliva,
vomit, and semen) of a person who is
sick with Ebola, or with objects (like
needles) that have been contaminated
with the virus. Ebola is not spread
through the air or by water or, in
general, by food; however, in Africa,
Ebola may be spreading as a result
of handling bushmeat (wild animals
hunted for food) and contact with
infected bats. If you are in or traveling
to an area affected by the Ebola
outbreak, protect yourself by doing
the following:
• Wash hands frequently.
• Avoid contact with blood and
body fluids of any person,
particularly someone who is sick.
• Do not handle items that may
have come in contact with an
infected person’s blood or body
fluids.
• Do not touch the body of
someone who has died from
Ebola.
• Do not touch bats and nonhuman
primates or their blood and
fluids and do not touch or eat
raw meat prepared from these
animals.
• Avoid hospitals where Ebola
patients are being treated. The
U.S. Embassy or consulate is
often able to provide advice on
medical facilities.
• Seek medical care immediately if
you develop fever (temperature
of 101.5oF/ 38.6oC) and any of
the other following symptoms:
headache, muscle pain, diarrhea,
vomiting, stomach pain, or
unexplained bruising or bleeding.
Without a shadow of doubt, medical tourism is booming as people seek for more affordable and
advanced medical services in foreign countries. In an exclusive interview to Indo Africa Times, Dr.
R.P. Vashist, Director, Heal ‘’ Bliss Medical Tourism Pvt. Ltd spotted light on the prominence and
promotion of medical tourism in today’s era. Also, he enlightened us with “The Killing Disease-
Ebola”, its history, symptoms and preventive measures.
