Editor's Notes
Thank you Mr. Chair. Good morning everybody. My topic is going to focus on the global bamboo trade. As we know, whatever the products are produced by any kinds of manufacturers, with micro, small, middle, and large scales, the products will be consumed by the market, locally, regionally and internationally.
Today, I will talk to you about bamboo and rattan industry, global trade market and trade facilitation for bamboo and rattan.
On the map, we will find the major importer countries in yellow and major exporter of bamboo and rattan in green in the international market. We will find that the total trade of bamboo and rattan between countries in the international market is not that much as we think, about 2.5 billion US$ every year. However, we should noticed that there are always a large domestic market in bamboo and rattan areas, especially those traditional consumption areas of bamboo and rattan products. The total domestic market of this sector can be estimated as about 35 US$ billion for bamboo and rattan producing countries. Together with the international market, the global trade of bamboo and rattan, can be estimated up to 37 US$ billion.
We can see that the international trade of bamboo and rattan declined since the year of 2008 when it peaked the highest record, due to the global financial crisis. Then come back to a relatively stable trend these years.
This is about the distribution of bamboo and rattan resource in the world map. Bamboo is about 37 million ha, by FAO, in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Here in slide, I listed the bamboo industries for various products. Letโs go.
Bamboo can be used for many things with a full utilization of the whole pole. From the root to the leaves, made into handicrafts, furniture, vegetable, charcoal, furniture, panel-based products, fibre and etc.
