2. Clean Sfax
Objectives: Create a web site which expose
how pioneer prep school of Sfax pupils are
going to participate in reducing pollution
problems in the city of Sfax starting form our
school.
• HOW ?
Pupils participating in this project work will try
to make of our school a pilot example in
implementing real and practical solutions to
reduce pollution in our city.

3. What are the practical solutions that we
intent to do, to reduce pollution in the
city of Sfax?
• We want to set up solar panels on our school
roof in order to achieve a self-sufficiency in
photovoltaic power.
• We want to find ecologic friendly solutions to
the different types of wastes of our school (
paper, plastic, organic wastes, etc.) like
recycling.

4. Tasks to do
• Collect information about:
The school’s electric energy consumption and their
costs.
How many solar panels needed to achieve self
sufficiency with photovoltaic energy;
What are the eventual repercussions on the
environment due to the reduce of petrol combustion
to produce the same quantity of electric energy;
How to set up this solution? In front of the lack of
financial means how pupils are going to manage to
find partners and sponsors believing in their project
work.

5. I. let's make an assessment of the
ecologic problems of the city of Sfax
A. Pupils participating on this project work
should try to find data about the effects of
energy creation through the combustion of
petrol or gas (STEG). For each kilowatt of
electricity, what are the CO2, toxic wastes
and other polluting emanations.
Try to quantify and to put these data on
spread sheets and draw charts.

6. B. Try to investigate on the relation ship
between pollution and public health.
• Try to find data about the effects of pollution
on the Sfaxien’s health care costs, eventually
the cancer disease and respiratory diseases.
• Try to pull out some data from public
institutions like CNAM, CNSS, CNRPS, and
other health care institutions like CHU of Sfax,
meds university.
• Try to look for related articles about the
subject.

7. C. Domestic and city wastes problems
• Try to investigate about the actual solutions
to get rid of domestic and city wastes without
harming the ecology .
• Try to find out if these wastes are treated or
recycled and if not what is really done to these
wastes.
• Try to find companies and institutions taking
care of the treatment and the recycling of
wastes in Sfax or in Tunisia generally.

8. D. Industrial wastes
• Investigate about the actual actions done by
the official communes (city hall for example)
and by the companies them selves to treat
,recycle wastes and their attempts to reduce
toxic and polluting emanations.

9. II. Solutions
• Observation: Actual ecologic solutions are
difficult to set up because it is economically
expensive and also because of people’s
culture and mentality.
the solution is to encourage investing on the
green economy , renewable energies,
encouraging unemployed young people to
create companies of recycling and wastes
treatment.
