Germany was divided into four occupation zones after World War 2, with Berlin also divided among the powers. The Berlin Wall was built in 1961 separating East and West Berlin until it fell on November 9, 1989, leading to German reunification on October 3, 1990. Germany now celebrates Tag der deutschen Einheit or German Unity Day in remembrance of its reunification.
