GREEN PLANTS
 PLANTS ARE THE BACKBONE OF ALL LIFE ON
EARTH.
 PLANTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO BALANCE NATURE.
 PLANTS ARE THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF ENERGY.
 HUMANS EAT FOOD BUT PLANTS MAKE THEIR
FOOD THROUGH PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
PLANTS
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
 THE WORD COMES FROM TWO GREEK WORDS ;
photon = LIGHT
AND
synthesis = PUTTING TOGETHER
DEFINITION
“GREEN PLANTS MANUFACTURE THEIR OWN
FOOD AND GIVE OFF OXYGEN IN THE PROCESS
CALLED PHOTOSYNTHESIS.”
REQUIREMENTS
GREEN PLANTS (POSSESSING
CHLOROPHYLL) NEED ONLY LIGHT ENERGY ,
CARBONDIOXIDE AND WATER TO MAKE
CARBOHYDRATE.
CHEMICAL EQUATION
6CO2 + 6H2O =light energy=> C6H12O6 + 6O2
PHOTOSYNTHETIC PIGMENTS
1) CHLOROPHYLLS
2) CAROTENOIDS
3) PHYCOBILINS
4) RHODOPSIN
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
PHASES OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
1. LIGHT REACTION
2. DARK REACTION
LIGHT AND DARK REACTION
 LIGHT REACTION (PHOTOPHASE REACTION) IS
THE LIGHT DEPENDED FIRST PHASE OF
PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN WHICH HYDROLYSIS OF
WATER OCCUR.
 DARK REACTION IS THE SYNTHESIS OF
CARBOHYDRATE BY GREEN PLANTS IN A LIGHT
INSENSITIVE PHASE.
IMPORTANCE OF PLANTS
PLANTS ARE THE PRODUCERS OF THE
ECOSYSTEM .
ONLY GREEN PLANTS CAN MAKE FOOD .
PLANTS ARE THE BASIS OF ALL LIFE ON EARTH.
SO WE CONSERVE OUR NATURE THROUGH
PLANTING TREES .
THANKYOU
