Fracture treatment in coimbatore
1. Fracture Treatment
Hello!
This is Dr Salam and I am a full time practicing orthopaedic surgeon at the One care Medical Center,
a 100 bedded super-speciality orthopaedic hospital. Our hospital specializes in offering trauma care
and fracture treatment in Coimbatore. In this short read, I am going to tell you a bit about how
fracture treatment occurs
So let move on to the good stuff.
So why does a fracture occur in the first place?
A fracture occurs simply because the bone is impacted with a force that is well beyond its load
bearing capacity. When this occurs, the bone breaks. Depending on the force and injury the bone
can have a simple break or can in some cases actually shatter.
Globally, fractures are classified into
A. Simple fractures
2. B. Compound fractures
Treatment for both conditions significantly differ. A bone fracture is usually treated with a cast or
splint. The objective of course is to keep both ends of the bone in perfect alignment. Keeping the
bones in alignment of course helps the bones heal. Medications are usually prescribed to help ease
pain.
A digital X-Rays is usually a must to assess the severity of the fracture. Common symptoms of
fractures of course include pain, redness, swelling in the joint and local inflammation.
More complex fractures though require traction and stabilization before surgery. Traction involves
using a system of weights and pulleys to stretch muscles/tendons in and around the broken bones.
Fractures where the two ends of the bones have dislocated often requires fixation with rods and
screws, this of course is to bring the ends of the bones back into alignment.
Complications from fracture:-
Some common complications of fractures includes
A. Compartment syndrome
B. Hemoarthrosis
C. Shock
D. Clot in a blood vessel
E. Shock
F. Delayed wound healing
G. Wound infection
H. Damage to surrounding joint structures
Post a fracture treatment, it will take at least 8-12 weeks for complete wound healing. Proper rest
combined with graded physiotherapy usually goes a long way in helping patients recover to the
fullest.
