  • 2. Montgomery Facts <ul><li>State Capital </li></ul>
  • 3. On January 11, 1861, Alabama seceded (left) from the United States. Here, Jefferson Davis is sworn in as the first President of the Confederates States of America on the capital steps. A gold star has been placed where he stood during his speech. Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederacy.
  • 4. Did you know <ul><li>Black people &amp; white people could not drink out of the same water fountain? </li></ul>
  • 5. <ul><li>Black people &amp; white people could not go to the same schools? </li></ul>
  • 6. Civil Rights <ul><li>Rosa Parks would not give up her seat on a bus to a white person. </li></ul><ul><li>She was arrested. </li></ul><ul><li>Martin Luther King Jr . helped put together a bus boycott to protest. </li></ul><ul><li>Helped with desegregation </li></ul>
  • 7. People in Montgomery, Alabama helped change that!
