Partnership between Preshil- The Margaret Little Memorial School (Australia) and  the Art and Youth for Peace Social Project from the  Academia de Artes Guerrero (Colombia) people art people
A creative journey in which young people in Australia explore and exchange with a friend in Colombia their sense of identity, family and world through visual arts shared through the web.  “ it is so exciting every time I get the email!” Tess, 16 yrs old people art people
Prior volunteer  work in Colombia Contact with VCA Centre for Cultural Partnerships  = contact with Preshil School Schools’ interests  in promoting social awareness in their students P rogram structure:  Designed for a year 9 or 10 art class curriculum so it can be delivered with the support of the school and in collaboration with the arts teacher.  Program duration:  20/100-minute sessions to be carried out during term dates  Planning:  According to overseas communication and time difference requirements. The sessions in Australia work in chain reaction to the ones in Colombia.  How Mi Amigo Internacional happened?

It revolves around the creation of artwork, its communicativeness and the interaction through IT so that the artwork can be delivered to a friend in the other side of the world.  During each session students create and develop artworks related to their identity and culture. Each session includes a creative process, ICT application and reflective sessions with the rest of the group. OUTCOMES The students have expanded their perception of the world and the advantages of global connections  “ It has been interesting to know how people from a whole other place in the world live” Anna 16 yrs The students have reflected on their identity and cultural and social differences through respect, empathy and tolerance The students have explored and experimented with techniques such as photomontage, painting, drawing, collage and mixed media The students have  developed interest in the Colombian and Australian culture and language.  “ It’s great I have started to learn another language” Molly 15 yrs people art people
OUTCOMES The students applied different narrative approaches to the work telling stories about their lives and imaginationthrough visual arts The students have developed responsibility skills due to task demands and schedule “ taking initiative to get work done, so you don’t let your friend down” Molly, 16 yrs Students  have practiced and developed deeper knowledge and better skills in ICT.  Teachers have been inspired  “ It has been great to interact with another teacher, seeing her work has been very inspiring for me as an artist and for me as a teacher” Peta Close, Preshil Art Teacher people art people
