5. Aberdeen is known as ‘ the silver city by the sea ’ or ‘ the granite city ’ as many of the buildings have been built with granite which was mined in Aberdeen from Rubislaw quarry. When the sun shines, the buildings sparkle. The quarry is not used any more. All that is left is the biggest man made hole in Europe!
6. Marshall College, part of the university, is built from granite. It was the second biggest granite building in the world.

8. There are some new buildings too! This huge glass cube is the new library for the university. It opened in August 2011.
9. This is Aberdeen harbour. There used to be fishing boats but now the boats are there to go out and support the oil-rigs in the North Sea.
