Islamophobia has increased greatly since 9/11 and manifests in various forms of violence and discrimination against Muslims. These include physical assaults, destruction of mosques, denial of services, and harassment of women wearing hijabs. While some laws have been enacted to prosecute hate crimes, many acts of Islamophobia are still getting away without consequences due to lack of enforcement or classification as hate crimes. More needs to be done through legal prosecution and social efforts to overcome prejudice in order to reduce the rising problem of Islamophobia.
1. Hatred is a concept that is rapidly increasing. Islamophobia is a form of hatred
and violence towards Islam and muslims. The types of violence include physical
assaults, burning and destruction mosques, refusals of service, and even jokes about
their prophet. Unfortunately, Ismlamohpbia will continue to happen for a long time. I
think that the hatred should stop.
Ever since 9/11, hatred and violence towards muslims has increased greatly. Due
to ignorance, people are being attacked just because they are believed to be a terrorist.
People think that participating in Islamophobia is being patriotic, but that is not the truth.
Hating a group of people just because the way they look, or because you believe they
are something they are not does not help your cause. You are also making a bad
example of your country. Islamohpobia is happening everywhere. Many women and
even teachers are discriminated against for wearing the muslim headgear. Students
have been kicked out of school or even expelled for wearing the hijab. People are even
denied services. There are stores that turn away customers due to the belief that the
person is a muslim terrorist or associates with them. Some customers will not even do
anything and just let the worker continue to harass the person Store owners or workers
should be prosecuted for fired for doing so. Many mosques have been burned and
vandalized by Islamophobes. During one battle in Iraq, United States Marines blew up a
shiite mosque and killed roughly forty people. Years later, we offered to help rebuild one
of the mosques in Iraq. I think it was due to guilt, which many people that attack
mosques do not have. There needs to be more justice for people that are attacked due
to their religion or look. There also needs to be more security for mosques.
While Islamophobia is a horrible crime it is unfortunately protected by the first
amendment. Many people have gotten away with violence or defamatory statements
towards muslims and Islam. “When some right wing christian preachers like Jerry
Falwell, Billy Graham and Pat Robertson make defamatory statements about Islam,
none of them were held accountable.”(Sway 20) Facts like that is something that needs
2. to be changed. The United States needs to take after Australia and prosecute more
people for participating in acts of Islamophobia. Luckily there are a few laws that
prosecute people for Islamophobia acts. But not all hate crime laws do what they are
made for. People have gotten away with hate crimes and the laws will not do anything
about it. Some city officials that investigate the crimes do not even see them as hate
crimes. That is why so many people get away with the crimes. Not prosecuting the
cases right makes people think they can get away with these hate crimes. I think that
the government needs to enforce hate crime laws even more so they will be more hope
for people. In other countries, people need to act now and help bring an end to
Islamophobia. While the acts are terrible here, they are almost worse in other countries.
many acts occur in Britain and France where there are not many hate crime laws. those
countries also need to enforce the laws and prosecute people. You can not expect
people to get along if you allow them to get away with the hatred.
Today, Islamophobia is a horrible condition in many countries. Several horrible
crimes are committed. Many people will not do anything about it. That hatred is
something horrible. More needs to be done. I think if people will actually come together
and try to overcome Islamophobia, the hatred can and will be greatly reduced.
