Vivitrol (also known by the generic name naltrexone) is one of many
medications available to help individuals cope with recovery from
the brain disease of drug and alcohol dependency (addiction).
Vivitrol is a powerful recent addition to our pharmaceutical helpers
and enables us to propel the patient into sustained long term
recovery from what is a chronic progressive relapsing and
potentially terminal brain disease.
Used in conjunction with appropriate therapy and other self-
awareness techniques, Vivitrol is administered monthly in a clinical
setting via intramuscular injection. The medication works to block
the effects of drugs and alcohol, thereby reducing the pleasurable
sensations associated with substance use. There is also a decrease
in craving. Long term recovery becomes more likely.
