'Emerging Kerala Event' is an occasion to shed away the Myths and Illusions of Kerala's Development and accept some hard realities. With the existing controversy-liking political leaderships and Government without any direction and commitment, no major investors or entrepreneurs will come. There is not much scope for heavy investment in Industry or Agriculture. Modern Knowledge Industries offer vast developmental and investment opportunities for Kerala. With suitable System, Technology and Business Model, Kerala can attain a ten fold Development within a short span of time.
2. REDEFINING MODELS AND PRIPRITIES
‘Emerging Kerala 2012’ Event is an occasion for Kerala to
redefine its developmental models and priorities ,
shedding away myths and illusions and accepting hard
realities.
Kerala is a small and greenery land with high density of
population gifted with the sharp brain power and the
ability to learn new things at lesser times. Here land is
always scarce and water too is scarce at least for 3 to 4
months that hamper industrial and agricultural
development.
However, with suitable system, technology and business
model, the entire Kerala can be transformed into the Hub
of Modern Knowledge Industries.
3. THE MYTH OF
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Thanks to high digital connectivity and literacy rate, Kerala is a fertile ground
for Information Technology. However, Kerala was bit late in adopting
Information Technology and exploring the global market for Software
Development and Business Processes Outsourcing. It was only in 2005, both
the Right and Left Political parties in Kerala could reach a consensus on
adopting Information Technology as a tool for development.
By 2012, IT has entered into a stage of stagnation globally coupled with the
harmful impacts of the Global Economic Crisis. Most of the promises made by
IT in later 1980s could not be fulfilled; we are over burdened with irrelevant,
fragmented and undependable Data or Information and we missed Knowledge
for Data or Information so as to affect the quality of the entire Education and
Business Forecasting and Decision Making.
By 2015, most of the Information Technology services will become obsolete
and incompatible to serve the Humanity with regard to Knowledge . However,
Information Communication Technology tools and infrastructure will be put
into Innovative Knowledge Processing and bringing out Value-added
Knowledge Products, Packages and Solutions in the entire social production
processes, especially Education, Practicing Professions, Scientific Research and
etc.
4. THE MYTH OF EDUCATION
Unless Education helps the formation of the people with the Critical
Skills, Expertise and Knowledge and above all the Positive Mindset, it is
a total failure, in spite of the people are made literate, millions with
high school diplomas or university graduation or even professional
qualifications.
We are heading towards an age in which every production process or
social activity is getting ‘Knowledge-Intensive’ and the very survival of
the people depends on their ability to produce, consume and exchange
the required critical knowledge. Knowledge has become not only a
resource but also a product or commodity to consume. Produce and
market globally.
In these contexts, Education in Kerala has become a total failure;
universities have become mere mills for creating incompetent
graduates and employing third rate clerks and teachers and
fermenting controversies. Not a single school in Kerala is fit enough to
provide education by taking into account the intellectual caliber and
aspirations of the new generation of children.
5. THE MYTH OF THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
Kerala has a long history and tradition in Ayurveda, Tribal
Medicine and Traditional Medicine . It too has a network of
hospitals and clinics in modern medicine.
Despite, healthcare system in Kerala has become highly
expensive and profit making commercial ventures, the
quality of healthcare services has become at a receiving
end; the new and contagious diseases spreading.
Without ensuring clean drinking water, unadulterated and
hygienic food, scientific waste management and also
mosquito eradication or control, using Bio-Technology
instead of conventional chemicals , nobody can safeguard
the health of the people and the health care system in
Kerala is a myth.
6. EMERGING KERALA- A NEW DEVELOPMENT
MODEL BASED ON KNOWLEDGE INDUSTRIES
I have already posted a presentation on ‘Emerging
Kerala – A New Development Model Based on
Knowledge Industries’ , exploring the potentialities
and strategic importance of ‘Knowledge Industries’ , in
www.slideshare.net/drrajumathew.
Knowledge Industries can be built within the
framework of KNOWMATICS which is based on
Mathew’s Theories of Knowledge Consumption-
Production.
