negative thought.” - Peace Pilgrim
I like this quote as it reminds me of the fact that we can be our own best ally or our
own worst enemy. And it can happen in the blink of an eye, faster than the speed of
light.
Peace Pilgrim, born Mildred Lisette Norman, was a peace activist who was known
for walking more than 25,000 miles over the span of 28 years, all in the name of
peace. She is the perfect example of how the power of your thoughts can conquer
even the wildest of dreams.
“In order for the world to become peaceful, people must become more peaceful.
Among mature people war would not be a problem – it would be impossible. In
their immaturity people want, at the same time, peace and the things which
make war. However, people can mature just as children grow up. Yes, our
institutions and our leaders reflect our immaturity, but as we mature we will elect
better leaders and set up better institutions. It always comes back to the thing so
many of us wish to avoid: working to improve ourselves.” - Peace Pilgrim
The thing I find fascinating is the last line of her quoted text. “It always comes back to
the thing so many of us wish to avoid: working to improve ourselves.”
How many of you have been in situations that you felt were absolutely unbearable?
You know, the kind of situation that maybe happens at work or at some type of
function with other people.
Maybe it’s the man or woman standing or sitting next to you and they are laughing
really loud and just being totally obnoxious. And you start thinking to yourself, man the
nerve of that person. Who do they think they are, the owner of this place or
2. something?
I will be the first to admit that I have been in this situation, more times than I care to
admit to. And, I would venture to say that anyone who won’t admit to being in such a
situation is probably not being a 100% truthful with themselves!
Getting back to this totally obnoxious person who is laughing out loud and carrying on.
Why doesn’t somebody do something about this! Why doesn’t someone go over and
tell them to quiet down, for Pete’s sake?
While the people laughing out loud, may seem annoying to you, could it be it’s only
because they’re happy and having a good time? Maybe if we changed our own
perspective, we might find ourselves laughing along with them!
Seldom do fights, which can lead to wars, ever break out when people are genuinely
laughing together! Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but the
general consensus is that most people who are laughing are too busy enjoying
themselves to be concerned with what’s going on around them!
So if instead of being annoyed by the loud laughing person, why not say, wow that
person is really happy! I wonder what he is so happy about?
Now, all of a sudden, you have taken an unbearable situation and made it into
something light hearted and fun. And it all was controlled by yourself! That is how
powerful one’s thoughts are!
The next time you find yourself in a less than pleasing environment, instead of being
