Put a 4k in it:
A Clearer Look
into the 4K UHD
Technology
Television, movie, and display screens are
evolving. One of the biggest game changers to
come this 2014 is the 4K Ultra High Definition
resolution. The 4K resolution is rewriting the
rulebook when it comes to image quality. In the
process, it’s also beginning to change the
fundamentals of everything from TV program to
movie to online video production.

For a clearer picture, here’s a look at this new technology.
4K Ultra HD, or UHD, is an umbrella
term that encompasses higher
resolution compared to the now
popular High Definition resolution. It
produces more realistic colors and has
higher frame rates, which results in a
clearer, crisper, and better viewing
experience.
This technology delivers four times the
picture resolution of 1080p Full HD. That’s a whopping eight million pixels
for UHD, compared to two million pixels for the full HD. This means
consumers can expect finer details in terms of potential image clarity,
greater texture, and an almost perfect photographic combination of
smoothness.
The Consumer Electronics Association
introduced the term Ultra High
Definition in August 2012, which is
partly defined as any resolution that
has "at least 3,840x2, 160 pixels.” The
idea was to replace the term 4K with a
more universal and easily
understandable lingo. The CEA’s
proposal was short-lived, however, as
Sony then announced they were going to call the technology “4K Ultra High
Definition.”

Industry experts agree that the shift
from the 1080p resolution to 4K is
inevitable. And this can only be a good
thing for consumers. 4K TVs are slowly
replacing the 1080p HDTV models as
the best performing LED–LCD-based
units on the market.
Everyone from photographers and
digital motion artists to videographers
and digital marketers will be benefitting greatly with technology. 4K displays
reveals more nuance and detail, with differences that are astonishing.
While 3D still has a following, 4K comes without caveats, as its higher
resolution images are simply better.
Soon, everything image and video-related—from movies, TV channels, Blu-
ray discs, online videos, YouTube, animations, video footages, to After
Effects, Apple Motion templates and other clips—will be using this
technology.
The 4K UHD technology will still be a work in progress as everybody starts
to embrace better images and videos, but it will be one that’ll truly lead to a
brighter and clearer future.
