3. My genre for my magazine will be Hip-
Hop/Rap music. Hip-Hop has had a bad
reputation of influencing children to do things
they wouldn’t normally do because the artist
discusses it in one of his tracks. However I
believe more people are finding hip-hop as a
very clever/cool way of putting your point
across.
REPRESENTATION
4. Hip-Hop is known for trying to be the best.
Everyone wants to be, and thinks they are, the
greatest of all time. It is represented as being
about what you own and your expensive
possessions. Nothing says you have made it
more as a rapper unless you have 24 Carat
Gold necklace swinging from your neck.
REPRESENTATION
5. Some People may say that music magazines
have lost their way a bit in recent years due to
media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Instead of reading a magazine to get the
latest gossip of your favourite star, people just
now look at their wall or send them a tweet
and this cuts the middle man out which
happens to be magazines. However our
magazine will integrate with these social
network sites and break down what the artist
is explaining.
AUDIENCE
6. Sometimes artists leave small hints for a new
track release date or promote their new tour
and maybe sending a tweet to the first five
people that buy tickets. Some artists even like
to start arguments with other artists over
these social networking sites which will be
good for our magazine as it will give an inside
look at all the disses and punch lines the
artists throw at each other.
AUDIENCE
7. At the end of the day, the audience wants a
strong, reliable Hip-Hop magazine with
upcoming artists and all the latest info about
the greats at the moment. Magazines seem to
be more for the die-hard fans or all the people
that claim to be “the biggest fan”. It’s a sense
of collectability and ownership you get from
buying a magazine instead of looking at a
computer screen and someone’s facebook
wall.
AUDIENCE
8. The magazine NME gets its money from its
circulation 20,011 copies sold per week (on
average). Also they make most of their money
by advertising. To advertise in an NME
magazine it costs £6,920 per advert in the
magazine.
INSTITUTION (NME)
9. Kerrang magazine has wider assests and get a wider
audience as they have a radio station, online website
and TV channel. This creates a much bigger audience
than just having a magazine because Kerrang is then
on most technology for everyone to
listen/watch/read. Kerrang and NME manage to
retain their readers by adding freebies, competitions
and always having a main big article with the biggest
artists/bands out on that week. Hip-Hop magazines
seem not to be the greatest magazines and I truly
believe that my magazine can fill this void.
