How to Obtain the Labour Studies
Certificate
"I have been a student of McMaster
Labour Studies Certificate Program since
2008. The instructors are stimulating;
they encourage active participation and
greater learning. I appreciate the smaller
classrooms, the flexibility of the schedule
and enjoy meeting students from diverse
backgrounds with a common desire for
social activism. Admittedly, the Program
has fueled me with a conscious mind to
embrace the powers of reason and a
passion for solidarity."
2. The McMaster Labour Studies Certificate
program is intended to meet the educational
goals of those wishing to pursue lifelong
learning in a supportive and worker friendly
environment. Courses are developed on
principles of adult education currently
practiced in unions. The learning process is
based on a commitment to students and
respect for prior knowledge, workplace
experiences and activism.
From September to May. Courses are 12
hours in length and are scheduled weekends
or evenings. We will also schedule classes in
local union halls.
Our instructors are recruited from a diverse
range of backgrounds including progressively
minded academics, social justice activists, and
experienced adult educators.
$125 per course (includes all classroom
materials) payable only by cash or cheque due
at the first class .
Some scholarships are available to qualifying
participants. Please contact the Labour
Studies office for more information.
