Project TO BE COMPLETED Monday, December 3rd
Final project
In this final project for the semester you will work on an art or design project for the
extended duration of five weeks.
Learning objectives:
1. Demonstrate familiarity with iterative design and prototyping processes
2. Demonstrate familiarity with research strategies evidenced by presentation and
documentation of creative practice
3. Formulate conceptual basis for your designs evidenced through studio critique
and written synthesis
4. Demonstrate command of design and technology vocabulary & concepts,
including concept maps, design fictions, user scenarios, design briefs,
schematics, and physical process models
5. Present work at a graduate level and respond constructively to critique
6. Articulate concepts analytically and formulate arguments in defense of your own
work, or in the discussion of others
7. Engage in ideas related to the social context and history of design and
technology
8. Work fluidly in a collaborative environment
9. Cultivate individual interests and research
10. Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of forms of design writing, including but
not limited to critical writing, design briefs, self-assessment, and user scenarios.
Project Schedule
1. Brainstorm potential directions and ideas. Refer back to your fields of interest
maps and diagrams, and all the other ideas you generated in the first several
weeks. You may also continue a project you started at some point in the
semester. Will you start with a context? A problem? A user? Other?
2. Define your design process. It must include conceptual development, research
(academic and from observation), prototyping, user testing, and iterations.
3. Define your project schedule, working back from the December 3rd date.
4. Work on the various aspects of your project for each class, according to your
outlined process.
5. Write an art/design manifesto which should capture elements of your work and
should hint at a future direction.
