Iraq was actively hiding evidence of its weapons programs from UN inspectors in several ways according to intercepted communications: 1) Iraqi military officers were observed removing materials from sites shortly before inspections. 2) Documents were being hidden in private homes and vehicles to avoid detection. 3) Scientists were arrested, forced to sign documents acknowledging death for sharing information, and in one case a scientist was even issued a false death certificate. 4) Instructions were relayed to remove mentions of nerve agents from wireless communications.
