Mai Ya was born in 1980 in Ban
Vinai.
In 1987 Mai Ya and her family
went to Madison, WI.
Once she got there she started
Van Hise Middle School.
Months later, her
mom, grandma, and aunt were
killed in a car accident.

Adult Mai Ya graduated East Side
In 1989
High.
After she graduated she was crowned
Miss Lou Hmong-Wisconsin.
Later in 2004 she graduated from
U.W. –Milwaukee with a B.A. degree
in Finance and Marketing.
