Mako shark
 Mako sharks are a dark
blue coloured species of
shark that is very diversely
found.They are of two
types:-short fin and long
fin.
 They are very agile and
dangerous as their sharp
teeth and strong jaws are
powerful.
 They are powerful
predators and consume
small fishes like tuna.
Shortfin mako shark
 It is the fastest species of
shark in the world swimming
up to 30-40 mph and
occasionally up to 70 mph in
sudden sprints.
 It has often attacked humans
perceiving them as a threat
and not prey. Overall,it has
attacked 42 humans, killing 2
and has attacked many fishing
boats.
Longfin mako shark
• The longfin mako is a
sharks who prefer to stay
in the upper parts of the
sea and is fast like the
shortfin.
• It is a shark which is shy
and doesn’t attack
humans but is big,sharp
teeth and strong jaws
make it potentially
dangerous
 The Shortfin lives all over
the Atlantic, Indian and
Pacific oceans. It mainly
lives along the eastern
border of the American
continents and in the sea
of Japan.
Shortfin mako’s habitat
Habitat of the
shortfin mako
Habitat of the longfin mako
 The habitat of the longfin is
also very similar to that of the
shortfin mako shark. Unlike
the shortfin, the longfin is also
concentrated in the
Mozambique channel and the
coast of north-eastern
Australia.
Longfin mako’s habitat
Human dangers faced by the mako
sharks  Both shortfin and longfin have been
considered endangered due to
human interference.The shortfin is
the fastest species of shark on the
planet and catching it is considered
to take a lot of skill and catching
competitions are held annually.The
longfin is caught for its fins which
are used to make the famous ‘shark
fin soup’. Once the fin is cut, the
shark is released back to suffer a
slow, painful death. Over 8-12
tons of sharks are caught each year
for entertainment and for making
the soup.
