What is TapeLite ® ??
TapeLite is a new, unique, rugged, totally passive optical lighting flat
cable technology…. from .5 inches (12.7 mm) up to 3.6 inches wide
(91.4 mm)
TapeLite carries no electricity… thus no bulbs to burn out or electro-
luminescence to degrade….ever!
TapeLite is driven (illuminated) by RGB LED, metal halide, or quartz
halogen illuminators

                                                      Amphenol Spectra-Strip
                                                      En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
Construction Overview
Twisted fibers cause fiber’s
maximum light acceptance angle
to be violated, thus light leaks out
at the fiber bends

Parallel sections of fiber at the
cable ends are provided to allow
maximum effective light launch
into cable, and also to provide a
convenient “cable tail” for routing
to the illuminator
Parallel sections can be a
maximum of 20 ft (6.1 m)

                                            is reflective, the other

Why TapeLite technology is clearly
           superior:
Twisted fibers are laminated to reflective
films…. this creates a much broader
surface area for light to reflect from, thus
 emitting more light.
Parallel fibers at the cable ends provide for
a very effective light launch into the cable.
They also provide for a very high fiber
 density in the fiber port.

Application Recommendations
Maximum length:

With 150 Watt Metal Halide:
110 ft (33.5 m) with 150 watt metal halide illuminator on each end
(includes 5 ft (1.52 m) tails on each end
45 ft (13.7 m) driven on one end with reflector other end
(includes 5 ft (1.52 m) tail on one end
With LED Illuminators:
    60 ft (18.3 m) driven both ends
(includes 5 ft (1.52 m) tails on each end
25 ft (7.6 m) driven on one end with reflector other end
(includes 5 ft (1.52 m) tail on one end
When driving from one end, always use a reflector
Minimum bend radius: 3 inches (76.2 mm)
Right angle bends: Fold the cable with a loop, then cross over the cable at a right
angle. Mask the loop
Outdoor cables: Should use PVC jacket with UV and fungus resistance, or TapeLite
Snap Track
Tail length: maximum is 20 ft (6.09 m) Keep as short as possible to minimize light loss

Why design with a TapeLite System?
TapeLite provides a way to differentiate your design
with unique lighting.

TapeLite strips can be scaled up to cover large surface
areas with dramatic results.

Color changes “move” across the cable, providing
unique visual interest with illuminators equipped with
color wheels

TapeLite is intrinsically safe. No electricity in the cable,
so you can install it under water !
TapeLite is a “green” technology. A 50 ft length driven
by two LED illuminators uses only 1.0 watts per foot

Why design with a TapeLite System?

Power source is remotely located from the light.

No bulbs to burn out. Less maintenance costs.

Tape Lite Introduction

  • 3. Who is Spectra-Strip? Spectra-Strip, located in Hamden CT, is a cable division of $3.2BB worldwide interconnect leader Amphenol Inc. www.amphenol.com www.spectra-strip.com www.tapelites.com Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 4. What is TapeLite ® ?? TapeLite is a new, unique, rugged, totally passive optical lighting flat cable technology…. from .5 inches (12.7 mm) up to 3.6 inches wide (91.4 mm) TapeLite carries no electricity… thus no bulbs to burn out or electro- luminescence to degrade….ever! TapeLite is driven (illuminated) by RGB LED, metal halide, or quartz halogen illuminators Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 5. Construction Overview Twisted fibers cause fiber’s maximum light acceptance angle to be violated, thus light leaks out at the fiber bends Parallel sections of fiber at the cable ends are provided to allow maximum effective light launch into cable, and also to provide a convenient “cable tail” for routing to the illuminator Parallel sections can be a maximum of 20 ft (6.1 m) Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 6. Construction Overview Materials: 1mm PMMA plastic optical fiber (POF) Highly reflective polyester / PVC laminates Standard width 3.0 inches (76.2 mm) .5 inches (12.7mm) up to 3.6 inches wide (91.4 mm) also available Clear PVC extruded jackets available, flame retardant, UV / Fungus resistant Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©

  • 15. 100 ft (30.5m), 3 inch (76.2mm) wide TapeLite, driven by one 150 Watt metal halide, looped into one port One side of TapeLite is reflective, the other side is clear, thus one side is brighter than the other Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 16. 100 ft (30.5m), 3 inch (76.2mm) wide TapeLite, driven by one 150 Watt metal halide, looped into one port Color “movement” across cable caused by color wheel and fiber alignment http://www.tapelites.com/Movies/Movie.asp?Vname=P5250050 Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 17. Why TapeLite technology is clearly superior: Twisted fibers are laminated to reflective films…. this creates a much broader surface area for light to reflect from, thus emitting more light. Parallel fibers at the cable ends provide for a very effective light launch into the cable. They also provide for a very high fiber density in the fiber port. Mask the loop Outdoor cables: Should use PVC jacket with UV and fungus resistance, or TapeLite Snap Track Tail length: maximum is 20 ft (6.09 m) Keep as short as possible to minimize light loss Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
  • 38. Why design with a TapeLite System? TapeLite provides a way to differentiate your design with unique lighting. TapeLite strips can be scaled up to cover large surface areas with dramatic results. Color changes “move” across the cable, providing unique visual interest with illuminators equipped with color wheels TapeLite is intrinsically safe. No electricity in the cable, so you can install it under water ! TapeLite is a “green” technology. A 50 ft length driven by two LED illuminators uses only 1.0 watts per foot Amphenol Spectra-Strip En-Lite-en-ment starts here ©
