    BI 2.0 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Definition of BI 2.0 technology | MAIA Intelligence Blog Page 1 of 5 Home About Us Our Products Our Services Case Studies Global Partnership Program Definition of BI 2.0 technology Mr. Sanjay Mehta, CEO, MAIA Intelligence Tim O’ Reilly, who initiated the most widely accepted specification for Web 2.0, said “data will be the driving force of Web 2.0…” MAIA Intelligence sees BI 2.0 as an extension of Web 2.0 in enterprise scenario where in it is an important opportunity to user and extends our expertise on presentation layer, data visualization and information on demand. It will be a mix and match of structured and unstructured, corporate and public data mash up in many new ways for analysis and interactive reporting capabilities. BI 2.0 architecture & differentiation with the traditional BI Traditional BI was within the organization in hands of few expert users. BI 2.0 will democratize BI and bring it to masses. Traditionally BI was complex, difficult and architected for selected analysts. BI 2.0 architecture will open up host of options for creativity with operational business users getting involved. This next generation BI 2.0 includes visualization capabilities that let users see the relationships among data, interactivity that lets them manipulate the data and an intuitive manner of working that suits the way business users think, for example, in asking new questions as they arise. BI 2.0 tools are more intuitive for business users than traditional business intelligence tools, specialty software and spreadsheets. They tend to be more adaptable and run faster and are organized around the user’s experience, not the structure of the data. http://blog.maia-intelligence.com/?p=6 1/7/2008
    2. Definition of BI 2.0 technology | MAIA Intelligence Blog Page 2 of 5 Advantages of BI 2.0 Highly Intuitive user interfaces that depict the cognitive models of the users, not the data models of the applications, because they are focused on the user experience, not the data. Ability to package analytical work and distribute it, not as reports, but as interactive applications that allow the viewer to engage at the level they are comfortable with-asking and answering their own questions on demand. Guides that assist people in accomplishing their goals without having to start with a clean sheet with good user experience. Central administration that is capable of managing security in granular manner, managing versioning, collaboration and dependencies. BI 2.0 Analytics needs, not to just save time but to give back time. BI 2.0 & the challenges with traditional BI that BI 2.0 can address BI infrastructure with data driven applications from previous generations of computing required lot of manual labor to aggregate the data and work on data models. It required expert and heavy lifting and got cast in to hard rock stone. BI 2.0 is appealing because it can get quickly numbers and data visualization together without the need of expert IT analyst. It is flexible for users hence users and not fixed on it forever. For e.g. stock rates report feed of stock exchange will be mashed up with various financial services companies back office data and published in a ticker format. Limitations of the BI 2.0 technology The most interesting challenges of BI 2.0 is balancing the need between, need for creativity with the need for control. BI 2.0 expects data supply to be near real time and in many case can be dynamic and coming from heterogeneous data sources at this place queries will be complex and will be difficult to do mash up. BI 2.0 heralds both a massive increase in volume of data and intuitiveness with various data visualization options and therefore increases the importance of control on data flow and need for all participants – data managers, designers and developers – to understand BI 2.0 and prepare business users for it. Addressing the issue of managing several reports generated through BI 2.0 technology and its tools MAIA Intelligence is a young company built on current technology stack which formed the basis for Web 2.0. MAIA Intelligence 1KEY software is has enterprise management console which control the data flow and gives a very balanced approach to enterprises. 1KEY give ample freedom for creativity but also controls on data flow equally. The intuitiveness end user experience is something which makes 1KEY BI 2.0 appealing. Status of BI adoption in India It is in hands of few experts analyst and targeted only at C level. The next issue is of “management by Excel”, which is limited thinking about some of the possibilities available through BI, and the question of who is looking after a company’s data. Managers are addicted to Excel don’t realize that they are thwarting the adoption of BI application and creating potential information liabilities. The CIO are realizing the need to move out of Desktop Analysis Culture pre-dominated by Excel and switch to enterprise wide secured reporting and analytical solutions. The transition from BI to BI 2.0 & factors that will drive the adoption of BI 2.0 technology in India http://blog.maia-intelligence.com/?p=6 1/7/2008
    3. Definition of BI 2.0 technology | MAIA Intelligence Blog Page 3 of 5 It has already started happening with new entrants like MAIA Intelligence which are built on current cutting edge technologies. Like for e.g. the old BI’s of the world are still doing the old way of aggregating data where as MAIA Intelligence 1KEY BI give multi dimensional cube functionalities on the fly with in memory architecture and compelling user interface. In other words we keep the product simple, and by doing so deployment is both easy and fast. “Simplifying analysis for everyone.” Similarities and dissimilarities between BI 2.0 and Enterprise Decision Management BI 2.0 and Enterprise Decision Management (EDM) both are meant to help in informed decision making. BI 2.0 encompasses complete pyramid in the enterprise and EDM help only the top of the pyramid. BI 2.0 helps at Strategic, Tactical and Operational level and EDM is more on the Strategic level. BI 2.0 is used by actual user in an dynamic and collaborative technology around user experience and EDM is more used by expert analyst around data structures. Additional features and new developments that one can expect in the field of Business Intelligence in future Until recently, business intelligence was limited to basic query and reporting, and it never really provided that much intelligence. Now that MAIA Intelligence is actively involved, we’re really raising the bar as far as what you can actually use business intelligence for. In the near future, a business users will look at their latest performance metrics before they check their e-mail as a part of their routine. Data presentation will be beautiful, elegant and descriptive. Solutions offered by MAIA in this field & readiness with a BI 2.0 platform We already are on the BI 2.0 stack offering various intuitive, collaborative technologies based on service oriented architecture (SOA). 1KEY software has crossed more than 3500 users in India. We tightly integrate with Microsoft SQL and Share Point Servers. We have dial gauges and dashboard within the ticker software and which runs on top of visually stunning interface of 1KEY cube which displays run time graph on selected value on a single click à interface of 1KEY. 1KEY cube displays runtime graph on selected value, all this to enhance Decision Making Power of the user. James Taylo, on January 4th, 2008 at 5:50 pm Said: Well I am not sure I would agree that EDM only applies at the strategic level. In fact, with its focus on the automation and improvement of operational decisions, one could argue that it is MORE relevant at the operational end of the stack! I have blogged before (and I am sure I will again) about the relationship of BI 2.0 and EDM.
