1. INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN
Alicia Damerow . ID 270 DE . Tone . Critique Week 4 . Spring 11
The tonal contrast between the black and white colors of the objects help to attract
attention to the room. The center of interest seems to be the fireplace because it is painted
white in the middle of a black wall with a red tree in the center. The accent lighting used
above the fireplace brings emphasis to the tree and also helps to draw your attention in
that direction. The compositional movement in this room is dynamic because there is a
smooth flow throughout the design of the room. The gradation from dark to light causes
your eyes to move through the space. The three pictures on the wall, although repeated
squares, are different sizes creating more interest to the eye with variation of sizes and
pictures. There is almost no texture in this room besides some molding and the rug on the
floor everything is smooth and simple. The black and white curtains as well as the thin
black lines along the windows help create vertical lines along the room and help to create
a balance.
