Editor's Notes
Last updated or created: April ‘11Key themes:You need to “sit where your customers sit” and view your application from their perspective. You need to adopt an outside-in viewYou need to do this regardless of what company or tool you useTalk trackThe answer to understanding and controlling the application delivery chain is to take a new view on your application: you need to adopt an outside-in, customer/user point of view. You need to “look back” at your application and infrastructure the same way your customers and users do: by operating and running it “from the outside in”What does this mean?<click to animate>It means you need to test and regularly monitor your application the same way your customers/user use it. So, you need to test and monitor: WHAT your users do – run the key transactions that are critical to your business WHERE they do it from – operate your application from the geographic locations that are important to your business. This will ensure that your users get a quality experience regardless of where they are located HOW they do it – if your users are accessing your app through a variety of browser and devices, and you need to do that, too. You need to test and monitor from all the browsers, operating systems, and mobile devices that you users are using.Once you detect a problem, you need to do two things: -- first, measure the business impact of the problem so you can prioritize it. How many users are affected by this? Is it a critical transaction or a less important one? Are my most important users affected or a second tier of users? Armed with this info you can prioritize the problem.-- second, isolate the root cause. Remember, the problem can be anywhere along the ADC. You need to find the root cause and fix it ASAPHow does Compuware help you do this?
Last updated or created: Sept ‘10Key themes:When a problem occurs in the Wed App Delivery Chain you need to be able to figure out where the root cause is.Talk trackYou need to be able to detect issues at any point in the WADC and resolve themThese issues come in four major areas:The browser or device – your application may be incompatible with a version of a browser or a mobile phone. You need to know this so you can resolve it.A third party provider – issues regularly occur with third parties who service your web application, such as CDNs, third party content providers, third party browser tags (such as Web analytic vendors), ad providers, cloud providers, etc. If these issues occur it will have a negative impact on your Web app and your brand. An ISP or the Internet – it’s very common for something to go wrong with an ISP or the Internet in general. If your Web app slows down you need to know if the problem is due to the Internet or something under your direct controlYour data center – Of course, many performance issues can occur directly in your own data center. You want to isolate and diagnose these as fast as possible.
Last updated or created: April ‘11Key themes:Four main things differentiate Gomez from other APM solutionsWe cover the entire application delivery chain – from the first mile to the last mile – We provide the broadest application browser and device supportWe offer the most actionable deep-dive diagnosticsThe fastest time to value for a broad set of usersTalk trackFour main things make Gomez unique.1 The only unified view across the entire application delivery chain – from the First Mile to the Last Mile. We eliminate blind spots all the way from the First Mile – your data center – to the Last Mile – your end user. We drive APM from an end user experience perspective, because that is the most important part of APM. This allows you to ensure your applications run optimally and measure the business impact of any issues so you can prioritize them properly.2. Support for the broadest set of applications, browsers, and devices. The Gomez solution works for literally every application, browser, and mobile device. This allows you to optimize performance and functionality for all your applications and users. This optimizes your total user experience and lets you satisfy the largest number of customers and users.3. Most actionable deep-dive diagnostics. When problems occur, Compuware provides the richest set of deep-dive diagnostics so you can isolate the root cause of any problems and resolve them rapidly. This reduces the time to resolution4. Fastest time to value for all stakeholders.Gomez provides value for three audiences – Line of Business, IT operations, and App Dev/QA – and it does so with implementation models that are quick. This provides rapid startup and payback
