- A Medical Services firm is required to have all equipment under contract. Not knowing that much of the equipment had been replaced, they continued to pay for the maintenance contracts on that equipment.Managed Print Services providerA DOD contractor found out (after reading one of my articles) that he did not own $25 million of the assets someone had rendered to the state. He over paid those taxes for some 10 years. Plus since someone did not pay close attention he overstated his deductions for the federal and state taxes for the same time period.He also had to restate his financials for the same time period and spent hours defending his corporation before the SEC. All because no one did an annual inventory audit of what was in the fixed assets inventory. Manufacturer with poor records and a big fireSaved two weeks with each audit versus the spreadsheetsSaved two days per month (10% of time) accounting for LeasesDue to trying to shove things into a warehouse and be done with them, a department forgot to check the insides of old ATM machines. I got involved because there was a $325 million difference in cash accounts. Guess where we found the money.

- M2M – having machines tell you when there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Additional cost? Probably, but not so much going forward (‘smart’ everything – refrigerators, A/Cs, TVs, other appliances, cars – all now). You just have to have a system that pays attention to the messages.What’s the difference == Takes some of the ‘guess work’ out of how often to perform PMs; examples in managed print (communicate faults); examples of add-on monitoring devices; added benefit - assistance with lost equipment in remote areas (oil-gas industry).
