Now I am speaking with JJ Virgin, whos name I love, whos the author of the upcoming book, the sugar
impact diet and I am so glad to be able to talk to JJ after meeting her at the genius network event, so
thank you JJ for taking time to talk to me.
JJ
You are so welcome.
ARI
Can you tell us what JJ stands for?
JJ
Actually when I was in college, I went to Japan to help bring aerobics to Japan and I remember getting
off the plane and there was a sign that said, welcome Juri to Japan, which is not my name, my name is
not Juri, it is Julie. I later went oh my gosh, am going to be Juri Johnson for like the next 6 months, nah! I
don’t think so, I became actually, I am glad this part didn’t stick, I became Jumbo and I was in Japan and I
am 6 feet tall, Jumbo JJ, that’s what started it and it became kind of stuck and I have got this awesome
last name and its like the best last name ever, except it is in a lot of sperm filters unfortunately and we
started this little brand issue with some of the things that I want to brand that I cant brand, but beyond
that, I like it you know.
ARI
It sounds like a big problem to deal with, so I love the name, that’s something that makes me happy. So
before we actually get to the diet and the book itself, I want to talk about you a little bit, so where and
how did you get to this point, am going to ask a bunch of question about the diet and the book itself, but
how did you get here?
JJ
Well I grew up in Barkley, form the table is how you role it except that I happened to be raised by my
mum in the Midwest on popcorns and candy crunch, so that kind of dials into the whole sugar thing, I
don’t have a sweet tooth, but my mother got me one while growing up, because I literally was raised on
that, but I was very athletic and so all during high school, I paid my way through, I saved up for college
by teaching dance class and catering and then I went to college and taught aerobics and I catered and I
literally decided whether I was going to go to school for exercise science or go to school to do coronary
institute when I got 19.30
