What are SMART CITIES?
A city can be defined as ‘smart’ when investments in human and social
capital and traditional (transport) and modern (ICT) communication
infrastructure fuel sustainable economic development and a high quality
of life, with a wise management of natural resources, through
participatory action and engagement.

Tiruppur is a city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, 47 km (29 mi) from Coimbatore. It
is located on the banks of the Noyyal River, which bifurcates the city into roughly two-halves.
It is the administrative headquarters of Tiruppur district.
Tiruppur is located in a region that was a part of the ancient Chera Empire as well as the
Kongu Nadu region. The region came under the control of the British at the conclusion of
the Polygar War in 1805.

PROPOSALS
The incubation method can be a model for other cities where they try to
improve and help grow the existing potential of a city.
Potential cities like tiruppur can be model cities which have strong existing
potential, in this case the industrial economy can be used as a driver of all
the other three bubbles.

The Incubators can actually be used to
maintain the sizes of the three bubbles.

Incubation method
Incubators will be spread to increase efficiency and making use the best of
what potential a city has. It will be a new type of ‘mixed use’

Final symposium of incubators which would eventually
strengthen the city and its connections.

This proposal won the First Prize in the ‘Urban Innovation Challenge on
smart cities’ coordinated by ETHOS India, GGIF (good governance India
foundation) and Municipalika. Our team (representing Pune) was awarded
during the 12 International Conference & Exhibition on Emerging Trends in
Sustainable Habitat & Integrated Cities held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat on
13th of November. The award was handed over by Honorable Minister of
Urban Development of India Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister of
Gujarat Anandiben Patel.
