Regular bedpans have a rounded, smooth upper end and a tapered, open lower end. The upper end fits under the patient’s buttocks toward the sacrum, with the open end toward the foot of the bed
. A special bedpan called a fracture bedpan is frequently used for patients with fractures of the femur or lower spine
Fracture bedpan - used for patients with fractures of the femur or lower spine. The fracture pan has a shallow, narrow upper end with a flat wide rim, and a deeper, open lower end. The upper end fits under the patient’s buttocks toward the sacrum, with the deeper, open lower end toward the foot of the bed.

Assess for activity limitations, such as hip surgery or spinal injury, which would contraindicate certain actions by the patient.
Check for the presence of drains, dressings, intravenous fluid infusion sites/equipment, traction, or any other devices that could interfere with the patient’s ability to help with the procedure or that could become dislodged.
Assess the characteristics of the urine and the patient’s skin

Urinal should not be left in place for extended periods because pressure and irritation to the patient’s skin can result. If patient is unable to use alone or with assistance, consider other interventions, such as commode or external condom catheter.
It may be necessary to assist patients who have difficulty holding the urinal in place, such as those with limited upper extremity movement or alteration in mentation, to prevent spillage of urine.
The urinal may also be used standing or sitting at the bedside or in the patient’s bathroom, if patient is able to do so.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental Health
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Most of the women are more concerned about the recovery issues, including the recovery time and the problems they face after the surgery. It is mainly because most of the women are either working or they have kids at home to look after. Therefore, they show a lot of concerns about the recovery process as they want soon to be back on their feet doing their normal daily routine work. Immediately after surgery: The patients should know that the Mastopexy surgery is done under general anesthesia and the patients can take some time to get out of the anesthetic effect. Once the patient gains his conscious, she can feel pain in her operated area and also it can be around the shoulders and neck as well. The patients will see that her breast is bandaged and there is a tube going from the breast into bag in order to drain out the excessive blood. Nausea is another common after cause which will fade out quickly in a day at most. The patients have to stay for one night at the hospital under observation and also she is not able to move much. The next day, the doctor asks the patients to walk for a few minutes after the blood drain bag is removed from the breast. The patients are advised painkillers which they can use in case of pain. The patients have to make sure that someone is accompanying them till home as they are strictly not allowed to drive until they fully recover.
- 2. Follow-up visits after surgery: The doctors usually ask you to come for a follow-up checkup after one week of the surgery. The doctor examines your bandage and the incision marks. If the bruise is healed, then the doctor might remove the bandage on your first follow-up checkup. The recovery process can take at least 15 days, but the scars and the marks due to operation can take several weeks to recover. It is advised for the patients to take at least one month rest before they can continue their normal life. Conclusion: The recovery process after the Mastopexy can take some time, but there is nothing to worry about as there are no associated risks in the recovery process. It is advised to the patients to take all the suggestions and precautionary measures given by the doctors. Breast Lift Surgery Before After Photos:
