4. Accomplishments
In 1975 Gloria met Emilio Estefan; he was a member of a Latin Music
band called “The Miami Latin Boys” . Gloria joined the band and became
the lead singer; the band was renamed The Miami Sound Machine.
In 1980 the band signed a contract with Discos CBS international.
The band released many songs including; eyes of innocence, Conga,
Don’t want to lose you, and turn the beat around; ‘Eyes of
Innocence’ being the song that jump started their popularity in the
united states.
Along with going on tours, making music videos, and a cookbook,
Gloria has donated much of her time to caring for Multiple Sclerosis
patients and giving her time to the Mellen Program of MS at
Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo center for brain health.
Gloria established the Gloria Estefan Foundation which has helped
many organizations/good causes such as; The Miami Project to cure
Paralysis, UNICEF, The Red Cross, etc.
In 2007; Gloria released her 29th album entitled ‘90 Millas” it gained
her spot number eleven as Latin Female Artist of the year 2007.

3) Empanadas de pina
Package frozen puff pastry, thawed
1/3 cup cajeta or thick caramel sauce
1/2 cup finely grated Monterrey jack
cheese
1/4 cup pineapple, peeled and diced
into 1/2-inch cubes (about 1 cup)
2 eggs, beaten and blended with 1
tablespoon water
All-purpose flour, for dusting
2 tablespoons demarara or light
brown sugar
Special equipment: a 3-inch round
cookie cutter or a clean 3-inch
diameter can with the top removed

The president is Raul Castro and the vice president is Miguel Diaz- Canel. The Cubans hold elections to vote for the president and vice president; the national assembly holds to power of electing presidents.
The Cabinet is elected by the National Assembly to act on its behalf when it’s not in session.
Income (trade)- Cuba makes most of its income by tourism, tobacco, and alcohol.
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degree
Place the ‘frozen puff pastry’ onto a cooking sheet
cut out 9 circles of dough. Repeat with the remaining puff pastry sheet. Make sure to add a teaspoon of cajeta in center of each round. Top each with a sprinkling of grated cheese and 3 or 4 pieces of pineapple. Brush the edge of each circle with the egg mixture and enclose each empanada into a half moon. Crimp the edges with fork. Transfer to prepared baking sheet and brush each empanada with the egg mixture. Crimp edges with fork. Transfer the empanadas to the prepared baking sheet and brush them with the egg mixture. Sprinkle with demarara sugar and bake until golden brown, about 25 to 30 minutes.
