1. OBE has been imposed for all programmes at
UMP since 2007. One of the products of OBE is
the self-assessment report (SAR) for engineering
programmes or MQA-02 for non-engineering
programmes. These reports are produced a year
before the end of the accreditation period and
are best to be submitted by 31 January of the
visit year as to avoid discontinuity of program
accreditation. Main issue to resolve during
production of the report is however the
inadequacy of data compiled by the main
stakeholders: the lecturers (course assessment
report), the head of the program (program
evaluation report) and the assistant registrar of
the faculty (record keeping). Due to repetition of
this problem at every cycle of SAR or MQA-02
revision period, CAIC had come up with a chart
on best practices that every lecturer must adhere
if they were part of the teaching faculty. This
chart was distributed to almost all lecturers
especially the new one and those returning from
study leave.
Before week 1 :
1. Lecturers to review syllabus & prepare teaching plan
and attendance checklist.
2. Head of Programme (HoP) to approve the document.
3. Dean/Deputy Dean to endorse the document .

all students.

teaching plan – JSK (Lecture Specification Schedule)
and plan for replacement class/lab to complete 14

outcomes/objectives
4. Lectures must end class by stating the conclusion of
the lesson for the day.

Center for Academic Innovation &
Competitiveness
With the vision of developing world class
graduates, the academic syllabus is imparted
to the students through all means such as
lecture, tutorial, workshop, fieldworks and
laboratory session with English as the medium
of instruction.
At UMP, the academic curriculum is designed
based on five top-down criteria namely:
• UMP or faculty vision and mission
• Programme educational objectives (PEOs)
• Programme Outcomes (POs)
• Course Outcomes (COs)
• Lesson Outcomes (LOs)
Basically, the design of academic curriculum is
initiated from the understanding of UMP or
the faculty vision and mission which sparks the
establishment of the PEOs. Next, the POs are
tailored to correspond with the PEOs and once
the relationship between the POs and PEOs is
determined by the faculty, the COs and the LOs
are created by the course coordinator.
