2. Forgetting about things
You were looking all around the house for your eyeglasses and when you finally asked your husband if he
saw your glasses, he pointed at something on top of your head. You panicked and looked everywhere for
your cellphone and when you asked your friend to call your number, you heard your phone ring inside your
jacket pocket.
These are only few of the many instances of you forgetting about a lot of things from appointments to
dinner dates. Forgetfulness is one of the signs of ADHD in adults. Being forgetful is something people look
at negatively. And this behaviour can ruin your career and relationships.
But for someone with ADHD, being forgetful is not something you can control. So here are a few tips that
can help you remember important things.
3. Making list and putting things in place
Make a to-do list for the next day. When you wake up in the morning, take a look at your to-do list so
you remember what you are supposed to do that day. Number your task according to priority. Put the
most important task first up to the least. And also bring that list with you wherever you go so that if you
need to add another task for the day, you can always write it down so you won’t forget.
Determine one part of your room where you can put your most important belongings. You can
put your eyeglasses, laptop, cellphone, wallet in one place like your dresser. Always put them there when
not in use. That way, you already know where to get your belongings when you need them. You can also
label cabinets, cupboards and other places where you put your things. For example, you tape a piece of
paper on your kitchen cupboard. Listed on that paper are all the utensils that you can find inside that
cupboard like spoons, forks, plates, etc.
4. Helpful things
Make use of the latest technology. Almost everybody nowadays owns an android phone or tablet. You
can take advantage of that by downloading applications that can set an alarm to remind you of an
important meeting. You can put in a reminder of all you are supposed to do for the day or for the week and
you can even customize for the alarm to go off a few minutes or an hour before the appointment or task.
Always bring a small notebook or a piece of paper with you. This is so you can write anything you
want to remember after. For example, you met someone new that you need to contact in the near future.
You can write his or her name and other details on that piece of paper and check it again after the
conversation.
Take your medications. An adult with ADHD also lives normally with responsibilities on careers and
relationships, so it is very important that you consistently take your medications. So never forget to take
your medicine and regularly visit your doctor.
