• Give the definition for the following 11 terms:
Rotation - The act of changing position in volleyball in a clockwise motion. With each new serve
won, each player moves one position to the right.
Setter - A player who is responsible for getting the second ball to the hitter by setting it with the
hands or bump setting with the forearms.
Spike - An attack, also known as a hit.
Dig - The term given to the action by a player who first puts the ball over the net unless the player is
making a block.
Ace - A serve that hits the floor in bounds, is shanked or cannot be handled by the receiving team,
immediately resulting in a point for the serving team.
3. Kill - A spike that cannot be returned, giving the attacking team a point or a sideout.
Double Hit - An illegal contact in which the ball touches a player twice in succession.
Libero - concentrating more on preventing an opponent from gaining an advantage than on scoring
Pass - Describes the main pass used throughout play. The fingers on both hands are used, ensuring
that the ball does not stay or get stuck in the hands.
Set - A strike that sets up a spike.
Side out - Happens when the serving team does not score and the serve goes to the opposing team.
