  3. 5. <ul><li>As mentioned in the first video, the three target areas based on our assessment were in agriculture, sanitation and healthcare. Village12 is launching four projects to address the problem in each of these areas: </li></ul><ul><li>1) Community cleanup and public park installation. </li></ul><ul><li>2) Agriculture production. </li></ul><ul><li>3) Latrines and composting system. </li></ul><ul><li>4) Medical clinic and healthcare courses. </li></ul>Projects
  4. 6. Community P ark and Cleanup <ul><li>Problem: </li></ul><ul><li>Garbage is scattered throughout the community. </li></ul><ul><li>There are no garbage cans and few community gathering areas. </li></ul>

Community Park and Cleanup <ul><li>Projected output: A garbage-free environment, with a functioning recycling center and system and a public park. </li></ul><ul><li>Status: After 2 weeks of working, 40m3 of garbage has been removed. Workers are leveling the area for drainage and preparing to spread gravel. </li></ul>Duration: 80 days
  6. 8. Park and Cleanup Expenses Total Park: $ 6,528
  7. 9. Agriculture Program Problem: People do not eat or grow enough food.

Agriculture Program <ul><li>Projected output: Use innovative and efficient growing systems to maximize crop output and grow enough food to feed everyone. </li></ul><ul><li>Status: Tilled and planted one plot with eggplants. Team assembled. Ready to continue working. </li></ul>Duration: 80 days
  9. 12. Agriculture Expenses Total Agriculture: $ 8,265
  10. 13. Latrine Program Problem: There are not enough toilets. The 28 that are present are in poor condition.
  11. 15. <ul><li>Projected output: Build 75 (est) low-cost, locally-sourced, locally-approved latrine toilets, enough for 1 for every 10 people. Build a composting system to process the human waste into fertilizer. Hire a batey resident to routinely service the toilets and composting bin. </li></ul><ul><li>Status: Design phase at Suncamp. Will follow the SOIL (www.oursoil.org) composting method of disposal. </li></ul>Latrine Program Duration: 120 days

  13. 17. Medical clinic and Healthcare education Problem: Malnourishment, dehydration and unsanitary living conditions cause many people to be weak and sick. People do not have the access, attention or education needed to lead healthy, clean lives.
  14. 18. <ul><li>Projected output: An operating a medical clinic, staffed with medical practitioners and stocked with over-the-counter medicines. Regularly offer courses like nutrition, hygiene and first aid to train healthcare workers. </li></ul><ul><li>Status: Recruiting medical staff </li></ul>Medical clinic and Healthcare education Duration: 36 days

  16. 20. Risk factor <ul><li>The Central Bank, which is the government, owns the land of the bateys. The history between Haitians and Dominicans is violent and we have been told the Central Bank has discriminated against the Haitians before. However, despite these rough pasts, we have been in close communication with Central Bank representatives and other community leaders. They told us they are pleased with our progress so far. </li></ul><ul><li>Mitigation Steps: If a situation does arise, we are prepared to peacefully defend people’s rights to a clean, livable environment. </li></ul>
