This document describes an infrared (IR) blanket designed for use in emergency medical situations. The blanket can be used to cover deceased individuals with dignity or to provide thermal protection and comfort to patients requiring pre-hospital treatment. The blanket is reusable, withstands 75 washings, and protects against heat, cold, fluids, and fire. It is available in adult and infant/child sizes for prices between R122-R332 depending on size. The company manufactures at least 2000 infant/child and 5000 adult blankets per month. The blanket meets criteria for use in medical settings and has been endorsed by South African health organizations.

2. Covering a deceased person on the scene
The I-R blanket is a proper and dignified product solution in covering a
deceased person on the scene. The cover protects the body from being
ex posed in public or on the scene.

3. Providing pre-hospital treatment on the scene
The I-R Blanket can be used in theatre/casualty and part of the first aid kit.
Used in recovery after unaesthetic and/or shock.
This is achieved by placing the I-R Blanket on top of the patient from shoulders to
feet. Thermal blanket/rescue/emergency blanket reflects up to 80% of radiated body
heat. Together with the thermal blanket the I-R Blanket can support more heat to the
body.

Usiba Creative manufactures/supplies a minimum of 2000 units a month
( Infant—Child size).
Usiba Creative manufacture/supplies a minimum of 5000 units a month ( Adult sizes).
All orders exceeding a maximum of 10000 units a month can be arranged on
agreement with the client.
The IR Blanket can be used for up to 75 washes thereafter should be replaced with a
new IR Blanket.
Orders and other enquiries can be done directly to the company.
Please note lead is 10 —12 weeks from date of order.
The company shall carry all deliveries to the client on mutual agreement between the
client and the company.
Terms of payment: C.O.D
Other terms of payment shall be based on a mutual agreement between the client and
the company.

5. TEXTILE IN MEDICINE
Technical textiles are already well established in functional applications for the medical sector.
In order to minimize risk in the work environment for the patient and healthcare personnel, medical
fabrics have progressed significantly in the last few years in their suitability and performance.
These products are now at a level where they can be classified as medical instruments, rather than just
as textile items.
Medical textiles have to comply with the following main criteria to qualify for use in the healthcare
environment
 Fabrics must provide the best possible protection available in the area they are applied.
 Fabrics must earn the confidence of the medical personnel by providing consistent
protection, even after 75 launderings.
 Fabrics must provide comfort and convenience to those who use them.
 Fabrics must be cost effective on a re-usable basis.
 Fabrics must not have any negative impact on wearer, work area or environment during use and
laundering.
In the USA and Europe, high technology medical fabrics are already legislated for use in all their
hospitals. In South Africa we are still using mainly cotton and poly/cotton fabrics.
These cotton and poly/cotton fabrics have linting properties, which can spread bacteria over large areas.
These can have a significant influence on hospital related nosocomial infection levels.
These fabrics also do not offer any protection to the Health worker against body fluids, as they are very
absorbent.
Our material, from the SABS ACCREDITED medical fabric suppliers, even for the operating theater are
non-linting therefore post operative infection control can be increased significantly.
In terms of the law employers are required to provide their employees with safety equipment and work
wear suitable to protect them from risk of the work environment that they operate in.
