This document describes a wireless remote control system for household appliances using RF signals. The system uses a 434MHz RF transmitter and receiver along with an encoder and decoder IC to transmit digital signals from the remote to control connected devices. The remote has four input buttons that map to four output channels to turn devices on and off. Example applications given are controlling fans, lights, TVs and air conditioners. The system aims to make controlling appliances more convenient for people with limited mobility. Components, circuit diagrams, operation and test results are provided. In conclusion, the wireless remote provides easy control of devices within a 100m range.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
2. Introduction
Controlling of household electrical appliances like fan,
television, air conditioner or sound systems manually is
sometimes hectic because one has to move to the switch board to
either turn off or on the device. Disable person who cannot walk
also find it difficult to control the devices . Therefore in order to
overcome this problem a RF Based Remote Control system is
proposed and implemented in this project. One advantage of RF
over IR based Remote Control System is that it can operate
without any Line of Sight around the house within its range.
3. Objective
To built a wireless Remote control to control Appliances
To minimize human effort to control the device.
To handle multiple task using a single remote.
5. How it works
The transmitter and receiver is connected according to the
circuit diagram. To built the circuit 434 Mhz transmitter and
receiver pair, encoder and decoder IC pair (HT12E/HT12D)
is used. The transmitter has four input channel and receiver
has also four output channel. According to the input fed at the
transmitter the output will be reflected at the receiver. The
input pattern can be either Logic 0 or 1. These Bits pattern
are used to control the devices to either turn on or turn off.
7. List of Components
RF transmitter and Receiver pair (434 Mhz)
Encoder and Decoder pair (HT12E/HT12D)
Resistor (33K and 1M Ohm)
Four push button switches
Two LEDs and two bulbs
Two transistor (BC547)
Two 5V Electronic Relay
15cm Antenna wire
Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO)
8. Electrical parameters of the
Circuit
Voltage:- 5 to 9 Volt
Circuit current:- 13.6 mA
Power dissipation:- 122.4mW
Input Bits:- 2V for Logic 1 and 0V for logic 0
Output Bits:- 2V for Logic 1 and 0V for logic 0
10. Conclusion
Controlling of Household Appliances using RF Remote
control is an effort carried by us to make human life more
comfortable and easier. The device is made using RF module of
434 MHz and Encoder and Decoder pair (HT12E/HT12D). In
this prototype we use two LEDs and two Bulbs as output devices
which are controlled by the four switches present in the
transmitter. Any kind of electrical devices can be used in place of
these LEDs and Bulbs like we use here. It can be television, air
conditioner, fan etc. It can control the devices within 100m range.
