WELCOME TO HAWAII!!! I WANT TO SHARE MY DREAM VACATION WITH YOU AND SHOW YOU SOME EXCITING POINTS OF INTEREST THAT HAWAII HAS TO OFFER, AS WELL AS PEOPLE, PLACES, TRADITIONS AND MUSIC. SIT BACK AND RELAX AND WATCH AS THE BEAUTY AND EXCITEMENT OF THESE MAGICAL ISLAND UNFOLD BEFORE YOU!
Why vacation in Hawaii? Imagine the warm, tropical air on your face as you lie on the one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The sun is shining on the crystal clear water and has warmed the sand. Hawaii has the most interesting islands, with everything from volcanoes to cities full of life. Take many various tours, on land or on the ocean. Watch a romantic sunset with a loved one during a romantic getaway, or go party the night away in one of the many clubs in the city. There are also beach parties and Luau’s and many more activities. There is always something going on in Hawaii!
Let us get this tour rolling with some historical facts. Around 300-500 AD, Polynesians from the South Pacific found the Hawaiian Islands while traveling in voyaging canoes. By 900 AD, all the main islands were occupied. In 1200 AD Tahitian explorers arrived and enslaved the Polynesians. The Tahitian priest initiated a ruling king for each island. From there, social classes emerged and the Hawaiian culture begins. In January of 1778, Captain James Cook found Oahu and Kauai. He was thought of by the Hawaiians as the reincarnation of one of their gods. Cook named the Sandwich Islands. Cook was killed a year later in Hawaii while he was chasing after a stolen rowboat. In 1791 rum was introduced to the Hawaiians. In 1792 one of the rulers of the Big Island, Kamehameha, conquered Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Oahu and in 1810, he unified the islands under a single rule and started promoting trade with Europe and the United States after protestant missionaries arrived on the islands. The most famous event however, is the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands during WW ll. There is still a ship docked there today and thousands of visitors each year take tours through the area. In 1959, the Islands of Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States.
This is a diagram of the Sandwich Islands. As stated in the history, Capt James Cook named the Islands “Sandwich Islands in honor of the Earl of Sandwich. This picture shows the relativity of Tahiti and the Polynesian Islands to Hawaii and how the explorers came across these Islands. The triangle represents the common trade route used in history between these islands.
The Hawaiian Islands consist of 11 islands. The most popular and famous vacation islands are Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai. Vacationers often travel from one island to another to take tours, discover beaches, and visit hot nightlife spots. Each Island is special in its own way.
This is to me the best part of my presentation, the beaches! Hawaii is the only place that I know of where you can visit beaches that have sand of different colors. Green beaches are made from olivine crystals, which are from the volcanoes, and only found on the Big Island’s southernmost tip. This beach is rare and isolated and can only be located by hiking or four wheelers. Black sand beaches evolve from ground lava and are located on all parts of the Islands that have had volcano activity. White sand beaches are made from crushed coral and shells and are common in Hawaii. These beaches are often the most romantic spots to watch the amazing sunsets. The red sand beach is located on the Island of Maui and is made from a crumbling cindercone hill on the side of a dormant volcano. The sand is very slippery, but the view is absolutely breathtaking. This beach is very isolated and is often used by nude sunbathers (hawaiiweb.com). Within all of these beaches lie places for romance or family fun activites. The most popular activites are surfing, snorkeling, swimming, night diving, kayaking and underwater tours of coral reefs and sea life. And of course, lessons are always provided to vacationers! Tours of Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Arizona Memorial are always an interesting way to spend the day. Remember the soldiers and see pictures and video of that fatal day.
The Hawaiian Islands are located at the end of a chain of volcanoes that began to form over 70 million years ago. Most of the volcano formed islands have eroded beneath sea level (hvo.wr.usg.gov, nd). Each of the Islands is made of one or more volcanoes. There are currently 3 active volcanoes in Hawaii, 2 of which are located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This park is Hawaii’s number 1 visitor attraction and consists of 377 square miles. There are many daily tours around this area, and visitors can view volcano craters and lush vegetation as well as rare exotic wildlife.
Hawaii has many different cultures of people. This pie chart shows all the cultures and what percentage of each culture makes up this beautiful state. Today there are not very many pure Hawaiian people with deep Hawaiian roots, but about 1 in 4 people are part Hawaiian. Hawaii is definitely a place without a racial majority.
The main great feast of Hawaii is the Luau. Somewhere within the Islands, there is a luau every night. It is like a huge night beach party with authentic Hawaiian food, dancing, and music, and there is no where else in the world where a vacationer can have this experience. The oven, called an Imu, is made out of a large pit dug in the sand and topped with river rocks. A fire is started and when the coals are hot, the food is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked and takes about 4 hours. Every luau has a whole roasted pig and poi, which is made from the polynesian taro plant. Decorations made of leaves and flowers are put up everywhere, and the feast is eaten on low tables while the guests are seated on the ground on mats. During the feast, Hawaii men and women play music and dance on stage dressed in authentic Hawaiian clothes made for this celebration. It is truly an exciting way to spend the evening.
Nightlife in Hawaii is definitely an something to experience. There is always something to do in Hawaii at night, whether you are on a romantic getaway and taking a nightly beach walk in the moonlight, or dancing the night away in a city night club. There are also theater shows and beach clubs to get away to, or tour the art galleries. See the stars at one of the world’s largest observatories, tour the volcanoes at twilight, or go night diving off one of the coasts of the Islands. There are also fireworks on Oahu every night.
In conclusion, Hawaii is a great place to get away and relax. There are so many things to do, both day and night in the Islands that you will never be bored or wishing you were doing something else. You can relax during the day and party the night away. The Islands are great for romantic getaways, family vacations, or singles just looking for a place to meet someone. There are many different cultures of people to experience, and shops in the city to explore. Take tours and experience everything that Hawaii has to offer for your next vacation!
