LINKEDIN
One of the ways an
interested candidate can
approach the HR team of
a company for a job
application is by asking
for a referral through
their network.
It is reported that referrals are the
#1
way job seekers have first
discovered a job and recruiters say
that 50% of the quality hires are
through referrals.
After asking for a referral
and applying for the job,
it is 4x more likely to hear
back from a recruiter at
that company.
It is also very necessary to
know how to ask for a
referral.
LinkedIn has a search filter
where applicants can search
for a job where someone
they know already works,
and can also ask for a
referral using the "Ask For A
Referral" button. LinkedIn
also suggests applicants for
them to know what to say
while asking for one.
1) Do not start the conversation
with a simple "hi" or "hello" and
then wait for their reply.
2) Keep the message short and
crisp, avoid writing lengthy
paragraphs.
3) Avoid spelling mistakes and any
kind of SMS language.
4) Be patient and wait for them to
reply.
5) Do not let the person you are
asking a referral from, cross question
you; provide all your details and
purpose.
6) Seek referrals from employees
working in the same company.
7) Build strong connections on
LinkedIn and stay active on the
website.
8) Be very specific about the
details of the job you are
applying to, the particular job
link/ID, a brief description of
yourself, your CV, experience
and other improtant details.
A single referral from a person
in your network will be much
more stronger than a mere
online job application.
