Catch a Wave at
The Blue Mile
3rd- 4th July 2010
Following their hugely successful launch at Sennen beach at the end of May, Catch
a Wave UK C.I.C., a not for profit Social Enterprise, will be exhibiting at The Blue
Mile 2010 event in the heart of Plymouth’s heritage at the historic Barbican
waterfront, on the 3rd and 4th July 2010. (Stand SH5 Sutton Harbour).
Catch a Wave UK C.I.C (visit: www.catchawaveuk.com), is a unique Watersports
and Complementary Therapies social enterprise, not for profit organisation, based in
Cornwall. The main aim of the Community Interest Company is to encourage more

2. people to use watersports and complementary therapies as a way of improving
health and wellbeing and ensuring as much fun as possible is had along the way!
Catch a Wave UK has been given the opportunity to be a part of The Blue Mile
2010, which is the UK’s newest mass participation Event designed to engage people
actively with the 'blue environment'. The fun-filled, action packed weekend sees
people from all walks of life completing a mile in, on or next to the water (see:
www.thebluemile.org)
We will have their own personalised stand within the event village at The Blue Mile
2010; the friendly, approachable team (including complementary therapists and
surfers), will be more than happy to answer questions and provide information on
how to sign up for a range of excellent courses and lessons. Staff members will also
no doubt encourage entry into the fantastic competition available, which gives
members of the Public the opportunity to win five free surf lessons with a qualified
surf instructor, providing the opportunity to learn how to ride the waves and
experience the true benefits that surfing has to offer.
Directors Anne Harrington (Founder and Managing Director), and Kit Sugden
(Marketing Director), will be present throughout the weekend, and would love to
meet anyone interested in finding out more about Catch a Wave UK
Anne says: “A huge challenge for me when I initially began surfing was feeling too
old, too unfit, too busy and not ‘cool’ enough to surf. I feel there are a lot of people
who also experience this and although they would LOVE to give watersports a go,
may feel they have to go through so many hurdles before they even get into a
wetsuit!'
'Our aim is to encourage people to use watersports and complementary therapies to
improve their health and wellbeing, in particular those who would not normally have
access to these resources; for example, people from disadvantaged backgrounds,
people recovering from drugs and alcohol misuse, the homelessness sector. We will
be working with the NHS, schools and other health agencies, and with individuals
and groups from many different areas. We want to give others the chance to

3. experience catching a wave too, and to discover a whole range of watersports and
complementary therapies in a relaxed, fun and professional environment.”

Catch a Wave UK C.I.C. has been established as a Social Enterprise, Community
Interest Company, as the Directors see there is a need for a not for profit
organisation in Water Sports and Complementary Therapies in the area. Any profits
made are poured back into the Community and Environment, and into the successful
running of the enterprise.
Catch a Wave UK C.I.C. also aims to be as sustainable as possible, supports the
work of Surfers Against Sewage, is a member of Coast, is a Marine Champion with
Nea2 and has linked with Finding Sanctuary; Marine Environmental projects, working
to protect coastal environments.
At Catch a Wave UK C.I.C. a complementary approach to Health Care is offered, a
nondrug treatment working on many different health conditions. The aim is to inspire
people to benefit from the healing and positive qualities of our lovely beaches, the
sea and nature. Water Sports (Surfing and Bodyboarding initially) are taught in a
professional, fun and safe way to those who may not otherwise be able to partake in,
or be open to this form of exercise. Complementary Therapies and support are
available to Clients, enabling an integrative approach, individual to each person.
Surfariz are also available, which offer a holistic holiday package of Surf Lessons,
Complementary Therapies and suggestions for local good quality accommodation.
