3. SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
An open invitation!
“Social entrepreneurship is often about a definition,
try to stay away from that!.”
“Social
entrepreneurs are
a special kind, you
will recognize
them. Profit wil
follow when you
realise social
impact.”
Social
entrepreneurs
grow against the
economic trend,
with 12% more
employment!
“Whether I am a social entrepreneur? No we’re just an organisaton that adrdress a social
problem with our business model. Some will call it social entrepreneuring, we just see
ourselves as normal entrepreneurs.”
The impact reached and the
entrepreneurial approach is key.
Everybody has right tot do this!

5. HOW WE WORK
The Social Impact Factory acts as an integrator and orchestrator that, keeps the
ecosystem together, with aligned efforts and actions among its members.
By doing so, the ecosystem becomes a problem-solving entity that can achieve
greater social impact.

OUR IMPACT
9. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
We gain knowledge through measuring, but how do we find
the implicit values?
Why start with social impact measurement?
10. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
What we did:
• Start counting in excel
• Start a pilot with students
of the university of
applied sciences
• Organize an impact-event with
different parties, methods and
knowledge (1-12-2015)
• Think again….
• Try a new pilot: social impact
measurement with Sinzer
How to start?
11. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
Goal of pilot
1st: Learning by doing!
2nd:
We want to develop a tool/template
to offer social entrepreneurs a
quick start in measuring
their own social impact!
12. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
Design of pilot:
• Cooperation between city of Utrecht and Social Impact Factory
• Define subjects
• Ask different expertise based on the subjects
• Ask social entrepreneurs to join
What’s in it for the social entrepreneur:
• a reason to start with measuring their own impact
• an impact measurement for free (except their time)
13. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
Subjects:
• Employment and Participation on labour market
• Social inclusion (isolation)
• Sustainability (environment)
Next step: how translate these to the right indicators?
14. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
Dilemma’s
• Which framework to use: SROI vs. SIF?
• Pre-change measurement and post-change measurement
vs. ‘impactmeasurement’
• How many stakeholders do you include?
Employees vs. Customers?
• How many and what kind of questions to ask?
Follow theoretical research vs. making your own set of questions.
15. IMPACT MEASUREMENT
Indicators and questions!
• Profile
Indicator: general information
Question: Did the organisation help you in achieving a (personal) goal?
• Employment and Participation labour market
Indicator: new skills
Question: At the organisation I learned a profession (for example: cleaning, baking,
sewing clothes, etc.)
• Social inclusion (isolation)
Indicator: connection
Question: Since I’m with the organisation, I feel more accepted by other people
around me.
• Sustainability (environment)
Indicator: conduct of business
Question: To what extent you value a sustainable conduct of business?
