This document provides an overview of pregnancy in 3 sentence summaries for each trimester: The first trimester covers weeks 1-12, where fertilization occurs within the first few weeks and the fetus' major organs begin to develop through the first 12 weeks. The second trimester spans weeks 13-27, where major development occurs like the sex becoming apparent and skeleton formation. The third trimester is weeks 28 until birth, where the fetus gains weight, practices breathing, and organs become ready to function on their own by 37 weeks.

2. You’re Definitely Not Fat.
You’re Pregnant.
 You’llprobably be curious about your
baby’s development!
 Pregnancy usually follows a very
predictable course.
 There are 3 trimesters which occur over 9
months during a pregnancy.

3. Weeks 1,2 & 3.
Preparing & Fertilization.
 Although you may feel pregnant; you’re
not for a week or so.
 Conception or fertilization usually occurs
after 2 weeks.
 During week 3, the sperm and the egg will
unite.
 A Zygote is composed of 46
chromosomes.

4. Weeks 5-12:
Growth & Development.
 During these weeks growth is the main
focus.
 During week 5 your baby’s heart and
circulatory system will form.
 By week 6 your baby’s heart is pumping
blood.
 By week 7 your baby’s head form.
 By week 8 the eyes form.
 By week 10 the neck forms.

5. Weeks 13-18:
Major Development.
In weeks 13-18 major development occurs
within your baby. Such as, the sex will
become apparent, skeleton begins to form,
and the intestines have moved from the
umbilical cord into your baby’s abdomen.
This marks the end of the first trimester.

6. Weeks 20-27:
Half Way Through.
 At week 20 your halfway thru your
pregancy.
 At week 21 your baby gaining weight and
the function to swallow
 During weeks 22-24,your baby’s finger
and foot prints are being formed.

7. Weeks 28-33:
One Step Closer
 At then 28th week into your pregnancy
your baby opens his/her eyes.
 At week 29 your baby’s bone are fully
developed,but still soft.
 At 30 weeks your baby is having red
blood cells formed in the bone marrow
 Jump ahead to two weeks and your baby
is now practicing how to breath

8. Weeks 34-36:
Almost But Not Quite
During the weeks 34-36 into your
pregnancy your baby’s fingernails have
reached its fingertips, the protective
coating that encase your baby thicken for
protection. Also rapid weight gain begins.

9. Final Weeks
Your Due Anytime Now
 At week 37 your baby is consider full-term.
 Your baby’s organ are ready to function
on their own for the first time.
 At week 40 your due date arrives. Your
baby might be 18 to 20 inches long and
weigh 6 to 9 pounds, remember healthy
