6 Weeks6 At 6 weeks (42 days) the baby’s nose, ears, and mouth begin to develop. Also, the baby’s heart rate is 100-160 beats per minute, twice as fast as the parent. Intestines are producing and blood is flowing through the fetus’ body.
9 9 Weeks Nearly an inch long the fetus probably weighs about an ounce. The heart divides into four chambers and valves start to form and plus tiny teeth. Baby’s organs and muscles are forming and coming into place. Eyes are fully formed but would not be open until 27 weeks.
13 WeeksThe Baby is now afetus, the eyes areformed and arefused together andher arms and legsbegin to twitch and more. The baby is about thesize of an egg and weighs about .5-.8 ounces.
17 Weeks The fetus reaches a length of about15 cm (6 inches). A fine hair calledlanugo develops on the head. Fetalskin is almost transparent. More muscletissue and bones have developed, andthe bones become harder. The fetusmakes active movements. Sexprediction by obstetric ultrasonographyis almost 100% accurate. The maindevelopment of external genitalia isfinished.
21 WeeksThe fetus reacts to loudsounds. Baby starts having aregular sleeping and wakingrhythm. The mothersmovements can wake herbaby. Taste buds areforming on your babystongue. The baby is 28cmlong (crown to heel) andweighs over 450 grams. Theweekly weight gain hasincreased to around 70grams.
26 WeeksThe baby measures 14inches long and weighsover 1.7 pound. Babymeasures 35.5cm longand weighs over 760grams. The feet are 2inches (5cm) long. Handsare very active. Thebabys eyes begin toopen around this time.
30 WeeksBaby measurements are 16 inches andweighs about 3 pounds. Length is 40cm andyour babys weight is 1.4 kilograms. The headis almost 3.5 inches (8cm) in diameter. Thefeet are nearly 2.5 inches (6cm) long. Thewrinkled skin is becoming smoother now. Inboys, the testicles have moved down to thegroin. The baby controls its own bodytemperature.
33 WeeksAs your baby grows she/he becomes moreactive. Also, if you talk to your baby, she/he canhear you, her taste buds developed and thebaby can taste. The baby’s skin goes from red topink and preparingherself for her lifeoutside the womb bystoring iron in her liver.
37 WeeksTypically, baby nowmeasures 19.5 inches (50cm) from the head to theheel. Baby weighs up to 7pounds or 3 kilograms.The head diameter is over3.5 inches (9cm). Thewater could break at anytime. If it does happen,see a doctorimmediately.
40 Weeks You have now reached the time of delivery. Allsystems are developed and ready to go. Now it is justa matter of time. Baby is about 20 inches (51cm) andweighs approximately 7.5 pounds (3.5 kg). The headhas a diameter of about 4 inches (10 cm). Thecontractions could begin at any moment.
