3. Starting With the Domain
You can build a website from the ground up or you can acquire an existing website
For a Google News website, you need to prefer a domain that has "news" on its domain e.g.
www.eveningnewsau.com
You can either start a niche website (e.g. www.tvnews.com for TV series news) or create one
that has a broad context which you can expand later on (e.g. www.aussienews.com)

4. Wordpress
Wordpress is a publisher's best friend along with Amazon Web Services
It is relatively easier to submit a Wordpress site to Google News
Most writers and editors are familiar with their Content Management System (CMS)

5. Branding
Early on, you will need to be conscious with your branding as it defines your credibility,
authority, and limitations
If you brand your site as a "leading celebrity news website," don't expect to position yourself as
the top destination for tech news.
People gravitate toward authoritative sites (and Google News does rank more authoritative sites
higher)
You can build your brand up or franchise an edition from other countries like the USA
Strong brand creates a "Mathew effect" in terms of traffic

You can either build an on shore team or build a remote or offshore team.

You can review how an offshore team can help boost traffic to your news site
India offers top talent in terms of tech support with relatively low cost
You will need to have a good contract management team to supplement your human resource
team

7. Content Strategy
Once you have a domain and branding in place, you can start market research and focus your
resources to high-yield coverage.
You can either acquire talent by expertise or develop expertise in-house (this helps in developing
authority for your site)
For news website, you can rely on Google News for traffic but you will need to diversify such as
traffic exchange sites (outbrain.com), or social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+)
To build a baseline traffic, you will need to produce timeless articles. You can further diversify to
magazine-type article or videos that are not "time sensitive"
Initially, you can focus on trending articles to cast a wide net, but you will need to go deep
eventually to develop authority and expertise
Eventually, you will need to incentivize your editorial team to network and to produce original
content for your site

With timeless articles (and returning visitors), this could result to 90%-100% ROI as you will need
not pay incentives for traffic (and ad revenues). You will need to limit the criteria for your

internally, by building a sales team
