Innovative ways to improve operating margins through customized technology solutions

The way we communicate is changing and the need for innovative solutions is the result. Many LSPs are faced with the challenge of how to improve productivity, increase revenue and achieve customer satisfaction while remaining quality conscious. Recent developments in the language industry have focused in the integration of machine translation into translation and localization workflows, paving the way for new trends in the market. Nova Language Services, an LSP specialised in medical translations, wanted to improve its operating margins through implementation of this technology, while at the same time retaining its philosophy of high quality.
This presentation will show how, with the help of tauyou, Nova Language Services gradually and seamlessly implemented machine translation technologies into its already consolidated operation activities by designing systems that allowed for the integration of translation memories and glossaries into a closely monitored MT workflow. Through a rigurous selection of post-editors, input from language specialists and adherence to ISO quality standards, Nova achieved an average productivity increase of 38%, leading to sharp improvements in the company’s operating margins.

Editor's Notes
Background
Nova’s first attempts to incorporate MT into its production processes date back to 2002.
At the time, the results proved useful mainly for Romance languages.
For Nova, MT primarily applied for Spanish<>Catalan projects, although we were also aware of its possibilities in other combinations including Portuguese and Galician.
Results
Improved operating margin by 32%
Lowered customer's price by 15%.
Decreased production time by 50%
Allowed highest allotment of assignments to the best providers.
Allowed for better sales offers in this small but competitive market.
Improved operating margin by 16%.
Decreased production time by 35%
Improved linguistic quality (ability to allocate more assignments to highest performing translators instead of resorting to lower scoring providers means less quality control time and more time for other PM aspects of the workflow).
Sales conditions for large volume accounts have improved.
Customer feedback has been very positive. No complaints have been recorded for any MT assignment. Many have ended in compliments.
