treatment.

family psychologists, and dieticians.
• Mental health counseling is required.

• A disorder in which
a person binges on
food.
• A binge involves
eating large amounts
of food over a very
short period of time.
• The binging is then
followed by purging
(throwing up or
using laxatives).

• The salivary glands become large from over-producing
saliva to prevent dehydration.
• Throwing up can disturb the electrolyte balance in the
body and can result in abnormal heart rhythms and
kidney damage.
• Excessive use of laxative disturbs normal bowel function
and diuretics can cause high blood pressure and
dehydration.

Bulimia?
• It is similar to anorexia but also
includes training in appropriate
nutritional eating habits, building self-
confidence and self-esteem.
• 30-50% of anorexics are also bulimic.

• A disorder that involves eating things that are not food.
• Ex. Clay, soil, starch.
• It usually occurs among pregnant women. It can cause
blockage of the intestines and harmful bacteria illness.

• Compulsive overeating is characterized by
uncontrollable eating and consequent weight gain.
Compulsive overeaters use food as a way to cope
with:
– stress
– emotional conflicts
– daily problems.
• The food can block out feelings and emotions. Compulsive
overeaters usually feel out of control and are aware their eating
patterns are abnormal. Like bulimics, compulsive overeaters do
recognize they have a problem.

• Try to limit high-fat foods. Eat more fruits and
vegetables and drink water.

hives, sweating, tightness in throat, difficulty
breathing, followed by low blood pressure,
unconsciousness, and death
• Many allergies start at infancy. Don’t give solid
foods until the doctor says and no cow’s milk
for 12 months.
