Project
Summary
In June 2014 Lamptech approached the Sydney Olympic Park
Tennis Center to discuss replacing the existing metal halide
lighting system with GigaTera LED’s.This project marked the first
installation for a broadcast quality sporting facility in Australia.
The project consisted of a total of 120 Sufa 400W fittings
installed at 6 courts, with the primary goal of increasing existing
light levels while achieving power savings and the minor goal
of lowered maintenance costs.
GigaTerawasabletodeliveralloftheSUFA400Wunitesinabout
6weekssincetheprojectcommencedonOctober7th.Itwasde-
terminedthatthesoilconditionsweresuchthatmediumdutyrat-
edpoleswererequiredforthefittings,soexistinglightdutypoles
werereplacedwiththemediumones.Atotalof6courtswere
relitusingGigaTera’sSufa400Wwith40unitsofSUFA400Wbeing
installedoncourt1,makingitthelargestnumberoflightsonany
onecourt.Theother5courtshad16lightsinstalledpercourt.The
projectwasplannedsothattherewouldbe2Sufa400Wunitsfor
every2KWunit,thoughsomeareasrequiringdramaticincreases
inlightoutputresultedinonlymarginalenergysavings.

We worked with Lamptech, Tennis Australia and the Sydney
Olympic Park Authority to install Gigatera LEDs at the Sydney
Olympic Park Tennis Centre. The lights were officially used for
our International ATP and WTA events featuring some of the
best players in the world. We have been thrilled with the lights
and we look forward to talking with our 500 members about
the opportunity of LED at local clubs in the future. ”
