Gentle hot restart and long life.
ECGs provide the basis for reliable lamp operation
with preheating of the lamp electrodes in accordance
with the manufacturer’s specifications, a sufficiently
high ignition voltage and limitation of the lamp
discharge current. Hot restarts under defined
conditions protect the lamps and increase their
life significantly compared with magnetic starter
operation. Luminaires operated on innovative
control gear from Tridonic can, therefore, be used in
conjunction with presence sensors.
Hot restarts reduce the cost of replacing the lamps
and also reduce the cost of maintaining the lighting
system thanks to longer maintenance intervals.
High-quality components, intelligent circuit design
and extensive testing under rated conditions give
ballasts from Tridonic their special character. The
average life of PC PRO devices, for example, is up
to 100,000 hours at a reliability of more than 90 %.
This means that for every 1,000 hours of operation
the nominal failure rate is only 0.1 %.
Lighting comfort and quality.
High-frequency operation of fluorescent lamps
improves the quality of light and makes the lighting
more comfortable on the eye. There is no flickering
during operation, and therefore no stroboscopic
effects.

Eclipse Technology
PCA ECO – maximum performance
The PCA ECO series offers high quality and excellent
economy and covers a wide range of applications.
With the digital DALI and DSI standards and the
integrated ‘switchDIM’ and ‘corridorFUNCTION’
functionality, the PCA ECO series is suitable for
a wide range of local and central applications.
PCA ECO ballasts can be combined with daylight
control via the ‘SMART’ interface. A large number
of different lamp types are supported, which offer
even more benefits in the case of T5 versions
thanks to multi-lamp management.
Dimming saves energy
Dimmable luminaires reduce energy consumption
by their very nature. Every lumen in excess of what
is needed increases CO₂ emissions unnecessarily.
The greatest potential energy savings with lighting
systems come from automatically adjusting the
dimming level according to the amount of freely
available daylight. Tridonic offers a wide range of
technical options. These include the direct integration
of daylight sensors and motion sensors to respond
directly to the presence or absence of people and
the available ambient light. A long series of intelligent
functions enables energy to be saved continually
and effortlessly. These functions include optimised
lamp operation, low power consumption on standby
and automation for corridors, storage rooms and car
parks.
Intelligent Voltage Guard
Prevention is better than cure – and that is also true
of ballasts. To help prevent damage due to
overvoltage or undervoltage the mains voltage for all
PCA ballasts is constantly monitored. If the mains
voltage is too low the relevant lamp circuit is
switched-off. At voltages between 70 and 140 V
the device switches-off and on again on a non-cyclic
basis. In the event of overvoltage the protection
system issues an alarm by causing the lamps to flash
alternately so that the installer can immediately take
action to remedy the overvoltage.
Intelligent Temperature Guard
Constant temperature checks enhance the
reliability of the ballasts. Intelligent Temperature
Guard provides effective protection against thermal
overloads by slowly reducing the output if a defined
ASIC temperature is exceeded. The reduction in
overtemperature takes place in small stages every
two minutes and is repeated successively every
10 minutes as soon as the temperature falls again.

The water in the two pools at the Sapphire Aquatic
Centre is heated to 30.5 degrees Celsius which creates
an extremely harsh, humid, chlorine filled environment
which effectively destroyed the original metal
luminaires via accelerated corrosion.
Strategic Lighting’s ‘Eclipse’ Twin and Single Lens 80
watt and Single Lens 24 watt T5 fluorescent luminaires
were chosen for the refit. With high lumen output,
rotational lenses, an IP66 rating and being constructed
from corrosion resistant materials meant they were
ideal for the centre.
The outcome of this project was a safer, well lit
environment where patrons are not exposed to
potential glare issues. The Sapphire Aquatic Centre also
benefits from energy savings by up to 60% as well as
reduced maintenance costs in the future.

“During my research for lighting options for the batting cages at Pine Hills
Lightning’s new purpose built facility I was recommended to Strategic
Lighting by a club official.
Right from the outset, Strategic Lighting was a breath of fresh air with
their passion and knowledge of their own product but more importantly
their focus on customer service. They know they have an outstanding
and innovative product and unlike so many of their competitors are keen
to assist wherever possible.
During the design phase Strategic Lighting ran multiple computer
scenarios designed to extract the best possible outcome for the cages.
As outlined in the accompanying story there is a very real challenge
in supplying sufficient light in these circumstances since the balls can
be launched by the mechanical throwing machines at speeds of up to
100km/h. Good lighting with minimal glare was the initial requirement,
followed by ease of installation, longevity of the fixture and lamps and
ease of maintenance. The team at Strategic Lighting did not disappoint!
The fixture has been given a great deal of consideration during its design
and construction. There are a number of innovative features on the
fixtures as well. Strategic Lighting’s products which were selected are
entirely waterproof, chemically resistant, capable of taking a knock from
the occasional high velocity baseball and have high light output and the ability to direct light via rotating lenses.
This last feature, the rotating lenses are a terrific aid to the final fine tuning of the lighting plan. Cleverly on the
outside of the rotating diffusers there are inbuilt calibration marks that make repetitious aligning of the banks of
lights a breeze.
There were other firms with other products out there that could have provided SOME of the required features
but only one that had them all. I am thoroughly satisfied with the product and support by Strategic Lighting
and have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who will sit still long enough for me to give them
my endorsement. Further, it is particularly satisfying to be able to give this ringing endorsement to a local
Australian manufacturer.”
