2. Laptops
• A full computer but lighter and can be carried
around.
• Full range of prices.
• Fully functional.
3. Netbooks
• A small computer used mostly for email and
web.
• Cheaper, less functionality.
4. eReader
• A device used to read books and other
publications.
• Can put your notes in PDF and access on your
eReader. (Open Office is a free set of software
by Oracle that you can create PDFs with if
your printer doesn’t do it.)
• Examples: Nook, Kindle.
5. Flash Drives
• A storage device with many sizes and costs.
(also known as thumb drive)
• Accessing
– Insert into the USB port.
– Open MyComputer
– Find the drive.
– Double-click to open
6. Flash Drives (cont.)
• Removing
• Always use the Safely Remove Hardware
button in the lower right of your screen to
eject the flash drive
• Alternatively, find the drive under
MyComputer and choose Eject)

• Save a file on the flash drive- SaveAs and then
choose the drive from the MyComputer listing
(or you can drag)
• RootsMagic to Go- has the software AND data
on the flash drive
• Open Office to go- has the software on the
flash drive

– A giant smart phone without the phone.
– Examples: iPad, Kindle Fire.
• Smart Phones
– A phone with email and web capability along with
applications
– Examples: iPhone, Androiod
