4. Step 1 Log into your Facebook account. If you don’t have an account create a personal account first (you used to have a personal account before you could create a fan page but it looks like now you can. See arrow at the bottom of the image below. But having a personal is important to understanding how social media works as you begin to market your business fan page.). If you log into your account go to the very bottom right of the page and click Create A Page.

5. Step 2 Your next choice is to choose what type of business page you are going to create. Since your business is a local business choose Local Business Or Place.

6. Step 3 Fill out the form which is created once you click Local Business or Place. After you finish this part of your Facebook business page set up you will come to a page that looks like a regular Facebook Page, but it’s not. It’s your Fan Page (business page). Congratulations! You will be given a three or four step set up process where they ask you to upload an image, invite friends, etc. But I recommend skipping all that for now. Especially the inviting of friends and contacts to your page. You can do that later.

7. Step 4 Upload a profile picture for your fan page temporarily so that it doesn’t look deserted. What you need to do is upload a big banner image that helps advertise your business. The maximum size for your Facebook fan page profile image is 540 pixels high by 180 pixels wide. Take advantage of that space.

9. Step 5 Now that you have your profile image taken care of, you should post a video or two and some posts on your wall to get your page looking a little ‘lived in’ so that when you invite friends to ‘Like’ your page you are giving them a reason to like it.

10. Step 6 Go out there and get some ‘Likes’ by inviting your friends and customers. There are many other ways of getting ‘Likes’ and customers using your fan page but for now we are just building a foundation.

11. Step 7 Next you should get your unique url for your business fan page. This is really important because people will be seeing an easy to remember URL like this (at the time of this writing you may have to get 25 likes before getting a unique URL): http://www.facebook.com/royalspa But if you don’t’ get a unique URL for your fan page it will look something like this: http://www.facebook.com/#!/salonspaexample?sk=wall

12. Step 8: After you get our unique URL you can start promoting it a little more aggressively using Facebook Advertising, on your website, on print material, and to your list.
